When you’ve had a baby, especially your first, you may quickly realize that some people do not know the proper way to visit a newborn baby. Babies are super sensitive with all their 5 little senses, and the tiniest thing can irritate them as they are new to the outside world. As a new Mommy you may feel your inner watch dog coming out as a means to protect this special person you’ve just dedicated the past 9 months of your life toting around in your tummy. Here are 10 tips for visiting a newborn to make things easier for both mom and baby… and feel free to pass it on to those who you think might need it:

1. Please Be Careful with Smells
This one is sort of a blanket regarding anything that would trigger someone’s nose. Perfumes/colognes, cigarette smoke, hairspray, or anything that smells strongly can easily irritate a newborn. This is especially true when you are going to hold a newborn close to you. While they are in your arms they will be masked by the overpowering fragrance/odor full of harmful chemicals to their pure senses. Be polite and don’t apply anything with an odor to make things easier for the little one trying to get used to breathing in their new environment.
