7. Kill Mold
No parent wants mold anywhere near their children and will do just about anything to keep it away. But bleach is a scary product and one to be used carefully. Borax is a safe alternative that actually will not only kill mold but prevent it, by turning the space where mold lives into an uninhabitable area. Mix 1 cup of borax to 1 gallon of water (about 16 cups water) and then apply to moldy area. Then scrub, scrub scrub the mold away!
8. Grout Cleaner
I live in a house from the 90’s and that means I have white tile and grout. Everywhere. I HATE cleaning it! Borax is a great grout cleaner, when mixed with 1/2 cut of baking soda, hot water and 1/4 cup borax to form a thin paste. Apply to your group and then scrub. I’m definitely trying this one!
9. Pest Control
Ants, water bugs, spiders and fleas are not welcome in any home, especially one with children! Mix borax with some regular sugar and put mixture in your problem pest areas. Be sure to keep out of reach of family pests and children! The sugar will attract the pests and then they will visit the area, pick up the borax and carry to their nest where their buddies will hopefully all partake, and you will no longer have a pest problem!
10. All Purpose Cleaner
When it’s all said and done, wouldn’t it just be nice to have one bottle of cleaner that you can clean the kitchen, bathroom and anything else with? Make your own all purpose cleaner using borax! To make, mix 1/4 cup of borax with 8 cups of boiling water. Mix well, cool then pour into a squirt bottle. You can add some essential oils for added fragrance or for a boost of power, like melaleuca (great for killing germs).
One of the best reasons to use Borax in your home is it’s very cost effective. There are tons of uses and it will cost you about $4 for a large box. If you pair that with the fact that it’s a completely natural cleaner, Borax can’t be beat. Happy Cleaning!
