Are you tired of your boring generic lamps, but don’t want to spend a lot of money on buying new, fancy ones? Well, why not do a little lampshade makeover? You can easily transform the look of your lamp by spicing up the lampshade. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money and the best part is that it’s completely custom, and will look so unique in your home. Here are some great DIY lampshade makeovers you can try:

1. Pom Pom Shade
This makeover is so simple, yet so incredibly adorable! Pom poms are very cheap, in fact, you can oftentimes find them at the dollar store. Take some pom poms in whatever color you think will look best on your lamp and hot glue them to the shade. It’s a quick craft that won’t take very long, but will have an awesome outcome.

2. Fabric Re-Do
This lamp looks so high fashion, but is an easy DIY project with some fabric and a plain lamp shade. If you’ve been looking for a great patterned lampshade, but haven’t been able to find exactly what you’re looking for, find the perfect fabric instead. There are many more fabrics to choose from than there are lampshades. Once you find the perfect fabric, you can easily recover the lampshade. It’ll make it look like a designer lamp without the high cost.

3. Flower Embellishments
How beautiful and creative is this lampshade? It’s so feminine and would be perfect for a little girl’s room. The great part is that it can be as intricate or as simple as you’d like to make it. Crafts stores often sell pre-made felt flowers that you could just hot glue gun onto the lamp. Or, if you’re more experienced in the crafting world, you can make your own felt flowers and embellishments. Either way, it’ll really add some pizzazz to your room.

4. Paint Your Way
If you don’t trust your skills with fabric, another great way to add some pattern to your lampshade is to simply paint it! You can tape off sections you want to paint, or you can get more fancy and use stencils to paint over to create a more intricate design. Or, if you’re really artistic you can even hand paint a really beautiful design. Each way will still look beautiful and will be more exciting than a plan lamp shade.

5. Add Some Wood
How unique does this balsa wood lampshade look? I’ve never seen anything like it. Balsa wood is the perfect kind of wood for this project because it’s flimsy and bendable. You can pick some up at craft stores as well as hardware stores. Just hot glue gun the balsa wood onto the lamp shade in random patterns.

6. Pom Pom Trim
Pom Pom trim is one of the best crafting accessories you can find. You can add it to so many things like curtains, pillow, blankets, and so much more. And you don’t even have to know how to sew in order to use it! The best part about trim is that there is a large enough fabric piece to simply glue onto the lamp shade! So simple and so easy! Just glue the fabric strip attached to the pom poms onto the bottom of the lamp shade, and voila! You’ve just created an incredibly unique lamp shade for your home.

7. Ruffle Lamp Shade
This is another incredibly adorable lampshade that would look so perfect in a little girl’s room. It’s perfectly feminine without being too over the top. All you have to do is get some linen fabric or muslin and glue the fabric onto the shade in a ruffle-like manner. No sewing involved! How great is that?

8. Upcycle Some Old Leggings
Ever wonder what to do with those old leggings or tights you have that either don’t fit or are ripped on one leg? Why not cover a lampshade with them? How incredibly creative and so unique! Not only is it so simple to do, but could also be free!

9. Repurpose an Old Sweater
Not only can you upcycle your old leggings or tights, you can also repurpose an old sweater. No need to buy new fabric if you already have some old clothes lying around that you’re either going to throw away or give away. And how cozy does this lampshade look with the sweater? It’ll make your room look comfy and inviting.

10. Rope Shade
Another thing we often times have lying around is rope or twine. I know I have an endless amount of twine sitting in my craft bin. Put some of that extra rope to good use. You can just take a hot glue gun and wrap the rope around the shade while gluing it down. If you’re going for a very nautical look this DIY project is perfect.

11. Love Letter
What better way to remember a love letter from your special someone than to write it on something that will be seen every day? Take your blank lampshade and a sharpie and write out the love letter. It doesn’t even have to be a love letter. It could be your favorite quote from a love movie, or a book. Either way, it will look equally romantic and beautiful.
