4. Plastic Wrap Is Your Best Friend
I’m sure you’ve seen and probably used the shrink wrap that many moving companies sell for moving to wrap your furniture in to keep it from getting harmed. Did you know that it’s basically the same things as plastic wrap, but larger and more expensive? So, next time just wrap everything with plastic wrap. It will still stay on great because it’s sticky and you’ll spend much less money. You can buy bulk boxes at Costco and other stores like that. Use it to wrap around your furniture to protect it, or if you have some items in drawers that need to stay organized like a utensils organizer, wrap some plastic wrap around it to keep things in place.
5. Color Code Boxes According To Which Room They Go In
When it comes time to unload the moving truck, chances are you have people helping you that have NO idea where things go. This usually results in your kitchen boxes being put in your master bedroom and bathroom boxes being put in the living room, and so on. A fabulous way to avoid this is to color code your boxes according to what room they go in. For example, green boxes go in the kitchen, red go in the bathroom, pink go in the living room, etc. You can label them with colored duct tape or colored stickers. Then, on the front door or near the entrance to your new place, hang up a color code key for everyone to look at so they know what color is what room. You can even place a colored paper outside each room to ensure even more that the boxes go in the correct rooms. This really keeps things organized and takes away a lot of the moving around of boxes to other rooms when you finally get settled in.

6. Use Smaller Boxes For Kitchen Items
Whenever we move, we like to use as little boxes as possible so that there’s less trips to and from the moving truck. As a result, we get large boxes and stuff as much as we can in each of them. During our first few moves, we did this for kitchen items, as well. That was a huge mistake. Most of the stuff you have in your kitchen is very heavy, like plates, bowls, crock pots, mixers, blenders, etc. Putting all those items in large boxes creates incredibly heavy boxes that are next to impossible to lift and carry. Not to mention that most of those items are breakable, so if someone drops it because it’s too heavy or they put it down to quickly because they just can’t hold onto it anymore, chances are you’ll end up with broken items. So, when it comes to packing the kitchen, use smaller boxes. You and your back will thank me later.
