As I’m gearing up to welcome our new addition in a few months, I found myself purging the sea of toys that has taken over our home. I started separating what we will need for the new baby and what I can set aside for my toddler. I had totally forgotten how many things a new baby actually needs. Well, maybe needs is a bit of a stretch, but they certainly don’t hurt. I have rounded up a list of the first toys your little one will use, all within the first 6 months. Take a browse and add them to your registry asap.

1. Activity Gym
The first toy/activity gear we used for my baby girl was a play mat. I could often get a solid 20 or 30 minutes out of her underneath the activity gym. I love that it also grows with the baby, perfect for tummy time. This particular one is a fave of mine as once the baby is older you can turn the adorable turtle into a little ball pit.

2. Teething Necklace
As your little one starts to teeth they will basically chew on anything they can get their hands on. While a teething necklace isn’t a toy per-se, it is exactly what you need during those fussy times to keep your baby entertained and happy. Another plus is that it looks adorable with any outfit, and you’ll always have it on hand whenever they baby needs it.

3. Sophie la Giraffe
Hands down the best teething toy on the market. I started giving my baby girl her Sophie Giraffe as soon as she was learning to grip, it was her first and favorite toy. Well known for it’s 100% rubber that little ones can’t help but soothe their sore gums on, Sophie la Giraffe stimulates all 5 senses from a very young age. If you don’t have one head to store or add it to your registry asap.

4. Stroller/Car Seat Toys
These are super easy to find and a very affordable first toy. You can pick one up almost anywhere, and they come in a ton of different designs. They make a great first toy that will continue to engage your sweet babe as they grow. Clip them on to the stroller or car seat when you are out and you’ll always have them at your fingertips.

5.Tag ‘n Play Pals
It might be awhile until your little one has a favorite plush toy they snuggle with regularly, but this sweet little elephant and his friends is the perfect first toy. The mixture of the bright colors, soft material and little tags gives your baby tons of sensory stimulation as they’re little brains are growing and developing.

6. Rattle
And of course, you just can’t go wrong with a traditional rattle; these classics are a favorite for a reason. Before your little one has figured out their motor skills you’ll find yourself waving, shaking and possibly even jumping up and down with it if it means getting a sweet giggle from your baby love.
