Marriage takes work. Lots of work. And once you have kids, it’s even harder to work on your relationship. I know it can be really hard to find time to get out without the kids, but date night doesn’t have to be fancy. In fact, all you really need to do is find a couple hours one night to get out and reconnect. Even if it’s just taking a stroll around the block, one-on-one time with your partner is essential. You can easily spice up date night without flowers or an expensive dinner or….even sex! It’s really simple. Try doing these 7 things next time you’re on a date with that studmuffin of yours.
1. Spritz On Perfume
If you don’t usually wear perfume (I’m lucky if I wear deodorant every day), go ahead and put some on for date night. Just a spritz or two on your neck will do. If you wear perfume on a daily basis, try switching things up by wearing a new scent. Your husband may or may not notice, but it will definitely get you out of your routine and feeling refreshed.
2. Wear Sexy Lingerie
I can’t remember the last time I wore sexy lingerie. Or sexy anything, for that matter! But you don’t have to wait for a special occasion to slip it on. In fact, even if it’s unlikely that you’ll get lucky on date night, you should still wear that lingerie underneath your clothes. Just feeling sexy can change your mood, which will in turn turn your husband on. And if you don’t end up in the bedroom that night, at least you’ve rekindled that spark. You’ll be more motivated to make time for sex because you’ll both be anxiously awaiting.
3. Pucker Up With A Bold Lip Color
Don’t wear your everyday clothing (seriously, get out of those yoga pants), or do your makeup like your normally do for date night. Turn up the heat by getting bolder with your look. A bright red lip is a classic look that any woman can pull off. If red is too bold for you, do something in the pink color family. Just give those lips some attention and your man will take notice.
4. Show Some Skin
Whether you’re wearing a low cut blouse, a short skirt or an off-the shoulder top, don’t be afraid to show some skin on date night. This is your chance to get dressed up and show your husband how sexy his wife is. This doesn’t mean you aren’t sexy when you’re covered up, but the truth is, our husbands pay more attention to us when they think they’ll get lucky. Plus, you’ll get to watch your man squirm as other men check out his hot wife.
5. Turn Heads In Your Heels
If you spend your days in flip flops like me, you’ll welcome the chance to spend date night limping around with blisters on your feet. So get out those (ridiculously uncomfortable) heels and strut your stuff! For once you won’t have to worry about tripping over Legos or books or action figures. You’ll just have to worry about tripping over your own two feet.
6. Put The Electronics Away
It’s extremely hard to connect with someone when you’re playing on your cell phone, or checking your email on your blackberry (do they even make blackberries anymore?!). On date night, put all the electronics away and focus on your spouse. Look into each other’s eyes. Hold hands. Sit and listen to one another breathe. Just be in the moment. It’s that simple. You might be surprised just how much this can strengthen your relationship.
7. Drink A Glass Of Wine
Once you’ve tried the first 6 ideas here, go ahead and end the night with a glass of wine. Because why not? You’ll still make it home by 8:00 to say goodnight to the kids as you and your husband zonk out on the bed, each asking the other if they are “too tired” for you know what. And if you don’t do it, that’s ok. Remember, that’s how those kids of yours (the reason you need date nights) got started in the first place.
