7. I Always Left The House Prepared With Snacks
Whenever I left the house I always made sure to bring healthy snacks with me. I never wanted to let myself get in a situation where I was out and about and got hungry and desperate for food and then end up eating fast food or other unhealthy options. My favorite snacks to take on the go were almonds, rice cakes, protein bars, apples, bananas, and grapes. I always had something healthy to eat, no matter where I went.
8. I Never Skipped Meals
I’m sure you’ve known people in the past, or maybe you have done this before, that skip meals when they’re dieting because they want to save the calories. This is one of the worst things you can do to your body. There’s a reason why you feel hungry – your body needs food, nutrients, and energy to keep functioning. Skipping meals does the exact opposite of what you’re hoping. It puts your body in starvation mode and it begins holding onto fat instead of burning it. If you feel hungry, eat! Just be sure to eat something that’s healthy instead of potato chips. Also, when you get so hungry from skipping a meal that you’re starving you tend to binge or over eat. You get so hungry that you just don’t care what you eat anymore and you just have to have something. This will lead to you making poor decisions when it comes what food you should be eating at each meal and snack.
9. I Didn’t Set A Strict Diet, Just Ate Healthier
When people noticed how great I was looking, they kept asking me what diet I was doing. The truth was that I wasn’t following any diet. I literally just ate healthier. In fact, I didn’t even count calories, or keep track of any kind of food intake. I tried to eat a lot of protein, fruits and vegetables, and I did, in fact, eat carbs! *GASP* I know, I know, carbs are supposed to be evil right? Well, when I did eat carbs, I made sure to be careful with them. They were ALWAYS whole wheat or whole grain. Carbs give you a lot of energy so you can get all your workouts in, so don’t be so afraid of them. I liked not following a diet because I felt like I could still eat whatever I wanted and I never felt like I was deprived of anything.
