If we’re talking about Thanksgiving, then we have to start with the food that started it all- the turkey.  We have the early settlers to thank for bringing the domesticated turkey with them when the settled in America.  Although it’s believed that turkey was served at the first Thanksgiving meal, venison is technically the only documented meat served that initial Thanksgiving. Later on, various types of “turkeys” were introduced, and were often different fowl all together (geese, ducks, you get the picture). One thing’s for sure, our love of turkey during the holiday seasons is still as strong as the Pilgrim’s!
