7. Fireplace
Nobody wants to envision their child suffering from a burn injury, especially if it happens from a fireplace in their own home (guilt city!). Fireplace injuries are entirely preventable, but they do take some work. Using a removable or stand alone fireplace screen may not be the best idea, since children can easily knock them over. Try using a gate designed for your fireplace that screws into the wall. As soon as they are old enough, start teaching your kids about the dangers of fire and not to touch anything near the fireplace. It’s also a good idea to proof the hearth area around your fireplace if you have one, by laying down a soft mat to protect from bumps into the brick or stone, or using a hearth pad for raised corners.
