Just yesterday, my toddler was outside banging on the wind chime that we have hanging in our yard. He loves to find his shovel and knock the chimes together. He also loves to grab it by the butterfly string in the middle and throw it around. Kids love wind chimes because they awaken the senses. The sights and sounds are fascinating to our children. That’s why making wind chimes is a great project for kids. Check out these 5 totally cool ones and then make some noise with your kiddos.

1. Tin Can Wind Chime
If you’ve read my bio or previous articles that I’ve written, you know that I love rainbows. So naturally this rainbow wind chime caught my attention. I love the bright colors, but it’s also such a fun project for kids! Plus, you can make use of all those empty cans from the delicious meals that you make.

2. Painted Washer Wind Chime
When it comes to kids and paint, you pretty much can’t go wrong. I think my little guy would paint anything and everything if I let him. (He may have already tried to paint his little sister…) If you have a paint lover in your house, this wind chime project will make their day. Pick up some washers from your local hardware store, and get to work!

3. Painted Key Wind Chime
You know how when your kid makes something for you, you love it, even if on the surface it looks like a messy piece of nonsense? That’s what I love about kid made projects- kids are so creative and expressive, that no matter what they make, it’s an awesome reflection of who they are. That being said, I love the idea of giving this key wind chime as a gift to someone. A new neighbor, a teacher or a friend who loves being outdoors. It isn’t fancy, but it’s unique and fun!
Check out how to do this over at inner child fun. I know I’d have fun making it!

4. Sun Catcher Wind Chime
If your style is somewhat Bohemian, this sun catcher wind chime would be the perfect addition to your outdoor space. The project is a bit complex, so it’s probably best for older children, but nonetheless, your kids will love getting artsy with this. And of course, you will too! I really love the colors and details.

5. Bottle Cap Wind Chime
Take that giant stick that your child keeps playing with outside and use it for this super cute DIY wind chime. With a few other supplies like bottle caps and beads, you and your little ones will have a great time making this outdoor work of art. This project allows your child to customize the craft, which will make them beam with pride every time they look at it.
