I’m not very outdoorsy, but my kids love being outside. And I know that many families enjoy camping trips, especially during the summer. But for kids, camping can be quite boring if there aren’t games or activities to keep them entertained. Sure, chasing bugs is fun, and making s’mores is super cool (or is it hot?), but those things are only enjoyable for so long. When you introduce your kids to camping or any new activity, first experience matters. That’s why I’ve rounded up a handful of camping crafts and activities that will have your kids begging to go on a family camping trip every weekend. (Sorry, and you’re welcome.)

1. Camping Bingo
You’re never too young to start playing bingo. This printable camping version is so cute! You could play it at lunchtime, sitting around the picnic table. I like the suggestion of playing this where you try to find the various items around the campsite, instead of the traditional way of playing. That would probably make this more exciting for the kids.

2. Popsicle Stick Tents
I’m not sure how many people actually bring craft supplies on their camping trips, but whether you do or not, this is a fun and easy craft to get the kids excited. You could make these prior to your camping adventure, or put them together on site. Use this as a chance to start a dialogue about how to set up a tent or start a campfire.

3. Storytelling Stones
What I love about these stones is that they allow children to use their imaginations. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the stories your children could make up with these. And they could definitely use them again for other outings, or create a new set to combine with the camping themed ones. This is also a great way to work on spelling, identification of objects and words.

4. Toilet Paper Roll Binoculars
Adventurous children will have a blast using these binoculars to hunt for bugs and other animals. You can make them before you head off on your trip, so the kids can use them for staying busy during the car ride too. Try playing a game of “I spy” and have them use the binoculars to add some fun to the game.

5. Nature Scavenger Hunt
The best way to learn about nature is to explore it. And a scavenger hunt is always a fun way to do that. This printable one works great for camping trips because it’s all about nature. Your kids could even use their cool binoculars to search for all the items. Talk about a double dose of fun!

6. Glowing Campfire
As you sit around the campfire, make a pretend one! This craft requires several supplies, including an LED tea light. But it would look super cool all lit up when it gets dark. You could even display it in your tent as a nightlight!
