Autumn Home Décor Ideas: Keep it Orange, Keep it Warm

Autumn has arrived, and even the slightest sign of chilly weather makes you want to cozy up indoors and create a warm, magical atmosphere at home.

The time is right to consider adding some autumnal tints and touches to your home to create that special ambience. Here are a few wonderful ideas for decorating your home for harvest time.

Decorate Your Porch

To create that mellow autumn mood in your home, begin with the first thing you and your family will see when approaching it – your porch.

The classic pumpkin-lined porch will always be everyone’s favourite, but you can make it even more charming if you personalize the pumpkins your own way, along with traditional jack-o’-lanterns kids simply adore.

You can add an extra touch of seasonal warmth by placing a welcome doormat in the colours of autumn foliage. Hanging a wreath on the front door (made out of natural materials, like wreath grass or dried leaves) would also make a neat touch.

If you want to take it a step further, consider painting your chairs bright red and your front door in a jolly orange hue. This will help make your house feel homey and inviting even when the cold and rainy days take over.

If you don’t have enough room on the porch, relocate some of your decorations to your front yard. Add some bales of hay and tin pots with dried flowers to jazz things up.

Spice Up Your Kitchen

With a little bit of seasonal decorating, your kitchen may easily be the most comfortable and pleasant room in your home. It can be the place you will use not only for cooking and dining, but also sharing precious moments with your loved ones.

For starters, make a centrepiece that you will put on your kitchen table or island. You can use an old cutting board, a wooden tray, or a wooden basket as the foundation for your decoration. Add elements such as mini pumpkins, pinecones, berries, twigs, and bright leaves.

Next, find an unused corner for a unique vignette: place a glass jar filled with green apples or some fresh veggies of your choice, and pep it up with an Autumn Acres Wood Print sign. Arrange pumpkin spice-scented candles alongside decorations to accentuate the cozy vibe. Scents of warm cider, cinnamon, apple, vanilla, and berries all work great and bring out the best in cloudy days.

Get your youngest ones engaged with decorating as well. Display their projects, such as paper scarecrows or owls as decorations on your fridge and walls.

Bring Comfort to Your Living Room

One of the best ways to introduce the warm autumn feeling into your living room is by bringing in some new textures.

Replace all the linen materials you’ve used through the summer with velvet, mohair, and wool.  Start with the pillows and blankets, and move on to curtains and table runners, with fall foliage as an inspiration for your choice of palettes. Add a few new throw pillows with an autumn motive for a budget-friendly upgrade and extra comfort.

If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, autumn is the time to clean it up and make it a part of your seasonal decor. You can even transform the fireplace into a living room centrepiece – just decorate the shelf according to your taste and the rest of the interior. You can choose a colourful design, with bold red and bright orange dominating the fireplace, or opt for soothing colours for a more calming atmosphere.

Tuck Up Your Bedroom

Crispy autumn days can make you want to spend your afternoons in bed, underneath cozy blankets.

So, if you want to start your days feeling warm and cozy but invigorated enough to get up and be active, make sure that your bedroom is filled with brilliant colours of the season.

When it comes to decorations, you might want to opt for a leafy wall decal to add some autumn flavour. Place a jug or tainted glassware with a few branches of red leaves at your nightstand, add a few smaller pumpkins as accents, and scented candles to soften the lighting.

Also, change the textures you use in your bedroom.

Layer your bed with a knit or faux fur throw. Alternatively, you can go for autumn-coloured blankets made out of wool, suede, or velvet. Change your summer pillows for the ones in felt or textural wool cases, and place them on your bed, armchair, or all around the floor.

With a few simple interior decoration tricks, you can transform your home into a cozy setting for some fun times with your family and friends, a perfect place for you to cuddle up next to your significant other, or an intimate space to enjoy your time alone with a book and a glass of wine.
