7. Paper Towel Roll Haircuts
We’ve already talked about how thicker paper is eating for scissor students, so you can imagine how much fun this paper towel craft is! Simply draw a face and then cut down the length of the roll to make hair. Then have the kids use their scissors to give your little paper towel person a haircut! This is a great way to use all those paper towel rolls that otherwise end up in the recyclables.

8. Dot & Cut
If your kids love Do-A-Dots then they’ll love this combo dot and scissor activity. Draw out patterns, such as circles, spirals or zigzags, and have your child use their marker to add dots along the outlines. When they’re done, have them practice cutting on the lines with their scissors. This is a great activity for fine motor skill development.

9.Foam Cutting & Sorting
Foam is another wonderful medium for scissor practice. It’s easy to hold, and firm and flexible enough to cut with kid scissors. It’s also thick enough that your kids won’t cut too quickly and veer off the lines. Take sheets of foam, cut into smaller squares and then draw lines. Help your kids cut into smaller pieces and then have them sort into like colors. Easy!

10. Nature Cutting
I simply LOVE this idea. Take the kids outside and let them make a mess learn to cut in nature! Gather simple things to cut like leave, grass and flowers (however much your garden can handle) and let your kids enhance their scissor skills on varying degrees of thick object. It’s a great way to get outside and let them learn something at the same time.
