Summer is around the corner, and for a lot of people that means vacation time. No matter what time of year you are heading out on vacation, there are plenty of ways you can save a penny or two on your trip. Check out these 5 tips and tricks before you book your next trip.
1. Limit Your Checked Luggage
A lot of airlines will charge for checked luggage on domestic flights. This can especially add up if you are a larger family and everyone checks a bag. To limit the cost, try having multiple family members share bag and be selective on how much you pack. Traveling a bit lighter will help keep those costs down. You can also use a collapsible suitcase such as the flex vega medium which can further save you money by allowing you to pack in a more optimized way.
2. Pack Snacks/Food
You may find that buying for convenience can get really expensive, especially when traveling with little ones. No one wants to be paying airport prices for a pack of fruit snacks. Pack as many of your kids favorite snacks and on-the-go food as you can fit. I know when we’re heading to Hawaii later this year one suitcase will be full of snacks and baby food so I wont be paying Island prices.
3. Plan Ahead
If you are going out of season for the type of vacation you have planned, then purchase any must need items ahead of time. Nobody wants to be paying extra because you are searching for items that are out of season. We have our family beach vacation booked for October this year so I’m stocking up on sun lotion, bathing suits and sun hats now while there is plenty of choice and summer deals going on.
4. Grocery Shop
If you rent a house or condo on your vacation there is nothing saying you need to eat every meal out. You can take your weekly food budget and do a grocery shop in your vacation town and make home yourself some “home” cooked meals. Even skipping 2-3 meals out will save yourself a pretty penny.
5. Vacation With Friends
Vacationing with friends or your extended family can really cut down of the cost of your accommodation. It’s really easy to find large homes, cabins or condos that can accommodate multiple families for great prices. Not only can it cut your costs in half, you also get to stay in really awesome places you otherwise may not have been able to afford.
