The holiday season is one that most people look forward to. Whether you love the chilly weather, the festive music or the all around generosity, Christmas time is a wonderful time of the year. As parents, we love to make December a special time for our children and we often achieve that through creating and maintaining traditions that we hope they will look back on for years to come with fondness. Every family has their own traditions, even if it’s just a few. If you’re looking to add some new ones to your family, then check out these simple traditions that are bound to bring you wonderful memories!
1. Family Trip To Pick Out Your Christmas Tree
If picking our your Christmas tree means a trip to the garage to haul down your fake tree, then you can skip right on ahead to #2! But if you’re still a family that enjoys the fresh smell of balsam and picking out your own tree, this is for you. In our family, we head to a local Christmas tree farm the weekend before Thanksgiving. We pick out our tree and then return a few weeks later to have it cut down. It’s actually a tradition I did with my family growing up, and we’ve transformed into one for our family of three now. Even if you head to the local Home Depot, that’s fine! Making it something the whole family looks forward to is half the fun and it’s better than just picking one up by yourself on the way home from work.
2. New Pajamas On Christmas Eve
Christmas morning is probably the time you capture the most pictures of your kids in the same room. If you’d like everyone in fresh and adorable PJ’s, then make it a tradition to give your kids new ones to open on Christmas Eve. Over the years they will come to expect it, but in a cute way and one filled with many memories.
3. Salt Dough Handprint Ornaments
There are certain things that you can always use and Christmas tree ornaments are one of them! Not only are they wonderful for your own tree but serve as great its for grandma and grandpa. They are easy and inexpensive ways to add personal touches to your tree, but more importantly they will track your kids as they grow through the years. You will love (cry) looking pack on their tiny hands and their first Christmas!
