If you’re like me, the thought of leaving my daughter with a stranger, aka new babysitter, leaves me with goosebumps. Images of all types of chaos and injuries take over and I’d sooner just give up my date night then have to deal with all the “what ifs.” But there are other times that using a babysitter is just a must, like dentist appointments, work events and yes, date nights. Finding a babysitter you trust is serious business, but it doesn’t have to be terrifying. Check out our tips on finding a babysitter that will give you the freedom you need and deserve.
1. Talk to Everyone You Know
Use your personal network as your starting point in finding a babysitter. This can include your family, friends, moms groups, church nursery workers and school. Ask if they can serve as your sitter, or if they have someone they recommend. Churches, mom groups and play dates are great for sharing sitters. Many moms will give you the pros and cons of people they’ve used in the past, which will cut down on leg work for you. Best of all, you have built in trust when the recommendation comes from someone you know.
