I don’t bake cupcakes often, but when I do, I usually have a bunch of unused liners left over. Being the frugal and resourceful woman that I am, I don’t just toss the liners. I hold onto them until I bake again (which is usually many months later and I forget that I still have them). But it turns out you can use cupcake liners for more than just baking cupcakes! There are several really easy ways to use them so they don’t go to waste when you have extras. Or, if you need a few ideas on kicking up your party planning a notch, these are great for that too.

1. Mason Jar Drink Lid
If you’re hosting an outdoor Sunday brunch, baby shower or another soiree, cupcake liners are a great way to keep bugs away from the drinks (here in the south that is a major problem). Not only does this let your guests enjoy their beverages, it adds a touch of fun to the gathering. Seriously, doesn’t it look so cute?

2. Counting Money Game
Break this game out to work on math skills with the kiddos. Write various amounts of money (in cents) on each liner, take a small pom pom or other object your kids can toss, and have them count the amount that the pom pom lands in. Super easy, super fun.

3. Cake Candle Holder
Candles are fun for topping a cake with, but what’s not fun is when the candles drip wax all over after you’ve blown them out. Punch the candles through paper straws and cupcake liners to help catch the wax drizzles and add some fun to the cake.

4. Gift Flower Bow
You can really do this however you want, and use as many liners as you think looks good. You basically just “fluff” the liners and add them to the top of the package. Treat them like you would any other gift bow. Can we say EASY?

5. Popsicle Drip Catcher
If I have to tell my child one more time to put a paper towel on his lap while eating a popsicle, I might poke my eyeballs out! He gets all sticky, touches the couch cushions, wipes his face and it’s one giant mess. But wait- I can just poke that popsicle stick through a cupcake liner and the drips will fall there instead of onto my son! What a great idea!

6. Paper Cup Coaster
It’s nice to pull out the fancy dishes when you’re hosting a party, but sometimes it’s better to go the cheap, easy-to-clean-up route. If you’re planning to host any holiday parties this year, consider using cupcake liners as coasters. Not only will it help prevent cup marks from getting on your coffee table, it will add a pop of seasonal fun to your guests’ drinks.
