Getting Fit On The Go: Simple Exercise Tips for Busy Schedules

Exercise is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy weight, improve mental health, and feel good. However, not everyone can exercise as much as they would like. And if you’re a mom on the go, it can feel impossible to find enough time to fit a workout into your life.  

If you find yourself unable to get out and do some physical activity, it might be helpful to consider adding exercise into your everyday routine. And here are 5 easy ways to do that.

1. Add-In A Little Exercise At Lunchtime

One of the best ways to add exercise into your everyday routine is to start with lunchtime. For many of us working moms, it’s one of the few times we get a free hour in our busy days. So why not make the most of that?



A quick jog around the block or a few minutes of your favorite physical activity will help to reinvigorate your day. Then, take your lunch out of the office and eat on the go. And you can easily couple that with a little social break by having a walking lunch with your office friends. 

2. Get Active While You’re Working

If you don’t want to spend your lunchtime working out, you can introduce simple exercises from behind your desk. Spending all day at a desk can make you feel achy and tired. Even though you’ve not been moving. Introduce exercise and shake off the fatigue by doing simple stretches while you’re sitting at your desk. 

Up the ante by bringing in some light weights to increase the intensity of your chair workout. And if you work on the phones, take advantage of the fact you’re wearing a headset and get moving on the spot. When you’re a busy mom and constantly on the go, getting some activity in while you’re working is an easy way to seamlessly introduce exercise.

3. Cycle Or Walk To Work

Another way to add exercise into your everyday routine is to switch up your journey to work. Sure, it’s easier to jump in the car or on public transport. But you’ll be surprised how much better you feel for being active on the way to work rather than stagnant. 

This way, you’ll get some exercise while you’re working and you won’t have to worry about whether or not you can make it to work on time. You could also choose to walk to work if you can’t afford a bike. If you’re thinking of jumping on a bike, make sure you understand the rules of the road first. Because it can be overwhelming to be on the road with huge vehicles.  

4. Join A Gym Or Take A Class

Joining a gym or class might feel like a big ask. But if you just think of it as an extra hour on your workday, then you’ll find it easy to add to your everyday routine. 

Gymnasiums and classes often offer different exercises perfect for your unique needs. Unfortunately, you won’t find the same variety of exercises at home, so it’s important to find an activity that you enjoy and can stick with for an extended period of time. And many gyms offer exceptional childcare options if you’re worried about the little ones being taken care of. (Online gyms like Beachbody are easy to follow and super affordable yet highly effective if cost is your concern.)

5. Add Some Exercise To Your Grocery Shopping

This one’s a bit of a curveball. Exercising in a store isn’t common and will make you feel self-conscious. But the groceries are essentially free weights. And think about how long you spend walking around. It would be easy to get a few hundred steps in by just doing the weekly shop.

Fitting exercise into a busy life can feel like a struggle. But hopefully, these tips have shown you that working out doesn’t have to be a separate thing at all. Instead, you can seamlessly add them into your daily life with very little work on your part.
