I love my dad. We’ve always had a special bond and even now that I’m all grown up, he’s still my hero. Fathers and daughters have a very special relationship, and with Father’s Day coming up, it’s time to start thinking about ways that dads and daughters can spend time together. These 7 ideas will keep the father daughter bond going strong. I hope my daughter grows up feeling the same admiration for her father as I feel for mine. Love you daddy!
1. Take a Baking Class
Make your father daughter date delicious by learning how to bake or cook something together. Kids love to create, and this is a great way to get you inspired to help out more at mealtime (mom will be thankful too!). Even if your dish doesn’t turn out right, you’ll have a fun time sharing laughs and making memories with your girl.
2. Go Ice Skating
Get some exercise in by taking your daughter roller skating or ice skating. She’ll love watching you show her all your cool moves. (Or falling flat on your face.) And she’ll be excited to show you how fast she can go. If you want to make your girl smile, a day on skates will definitely do the trick.
3. Go Berry Picking
When berries are in season, hit the berry patch to pick some delicious fruit. Not only will your daughter love bringing home and eating something that she picked herself, it will encourage healthy eating and is a great way to incorporate a little education about fruits, nature and healthy living in general.
4. Get Artsy
If your daughter is artistic, attend a class together where you create. Something like a painting class or pottery class will let your girl really use her talents. And, you just might find that you enjoy getting creative (and messy) yourself! I bet she will always look at the work of art she created and think of daddy, and how it was on their special day that she made it.
5. Shoot Some Hoops
For athletically inclined girls, a day on the basketball court is a win. Enjoy playing a few games of H-O-R-S-E, and of course, let your daughter win at least once. Then teach her how to dribble and shoot like a pro. She might not pick it up right away, but she’ll love you for teaching her something new.
6. Listen to Live Music
There is nothing quite like a live music show. The energy, the authenticity, it’s all quite amazing (so what if I’m biased because I have a music degree). And if your daughter has a favorite band or artist that she’s dying to see, you’ll become dad of the year by taking her to a live music concert. Don’t forget to embarrass her by singing along loudly…but not so loudly that she never wants to go to another show with you again.
7. Have a Tea Party
Sometimes as a dad, you have to do things you don’t want to do, like play with dolls, or play dress up, or have a little tea for two. Yes, you are required to wear that feather boa, and yes, you must be dainty as you nibble on your cookies. It’s totally worth it though, because your sweet girl is going to look back someday and remember how awesome her dad was for being such a good sport.
