Now that my daughter is almost three years old, I love that she has an interest in playing games and actually has the attention span to listen to directions (even if it’s only for a few minutes!). This age is so fun, and I want to encourage her cooperation and listening skills, along with her imagination and ability to just have fun. I refuse to completely cave to technology and want her to develop a love for board and card games like the rest of us did when we were growing up, before iPads ever existed. There are so many benefits to playing board games, even at such a young age. We’ve rounded up a great list of games your young kids will love, from a young toddler to preschooler!

1. Hi Ho Cherry-O
This is such a simple game that even parents will enjoy playing. Spin the arrow to determine how many apples, blueberries or cherries to pluck from your tree, and watch out for the animals that try and eat them along the way! This is a great game to practice counting and color recognition. Be sure your kids are over the whole “putting everything in my mouth” phase because this game has small pieces that are easy to choke on.

2. Count Your Chickens
This is a wonderful game that doesn’t require reading, but does require kids work together! Learn basic social skills and enhance counting abilities as players help Mother Hen to collect all her chicks. It’s great for young children.

3. Pie Face
This was one of the hottest games this past Christmas, and with good reason. Unlike our other games we’ve found, this game really doesn’t have any educational purpose. The goal is to just avoid getting pie in the face! You and your kids will die of laughter and suspense at each turn, and the look on their face when they get splatted is priceless!
