It is the season when the cold outside hurts our faces, and coming up with meals that kids will love hurts almost as much.
Here are a few options that are easy to make and easy to convince kids to eat, some recipes are even kid chef friendly. Winter is a great time to make meals that can be yummy left overs and easily made with things stored in the cupboard.
1. Chili + Cheese
It is such an easy recipe, found anywhere online and can be tuned to any picky eaters preferences. My husband hunts deer so we often use deer meat, its a good way to cover up the gamy taste. This is a great recipe to have the kids help out, great for left overs and inexpensive. Add cheese, sour cream and even Frito chips for some depth to flavor and texture.
2. Homemade soups
Chicken noodle soup, Italian wedding and veggie,-all easy, affordable, belly warming recipes. Also a great option for left overs and kids can help, even when your gone all day let it cook in the crock pot.
3. Grilled Cheese + Tomato Soup
Everyone loves a good grilled cheese and creamy tomato soup. Make it fun by using cookie cutters to make fun shapes out of the sandwiches.
4. Homemade Pizza
Making pizza is a great way to bond with the family, lay out a spread of toppings, use bagels, pita bread or regular dough. Get creative! Also having the oven on is a great way to warm the house.
5. Spaghetti Pie
It’s an unusual recipe, not many have heard of but it makes spaghetti night a little fun. You can use food coloring to color the noodles make regular spaghetti with your favorite sauce put it in a pan layered with noodle sauce and your favorite fillers, mushrooms, meat, veggies. Throw it in the oven. Its kind of a lasagna cheat.
6. Breakfast for Dinner
Nothing warms and fills the tummy like some pancakes, bacon and fluffy eggs. Pancakes are another great excuse to use cookie cutters and get creative with food coloring making it fun for the kids and eager for them to eat up !
7. Taco Tuesday
Last but not least, Tacos! Easy to put together, kids can make their own and make it hot with some spicy flavors. Home made tortillas can be easily found online or in basic cookbooks, tortilla chips for taco salad or regular shells for tons of filling fun!
