7. The Irish and Scottish communities of the US are credited with reviving some of their Old World customs in the early 20th century, namely trick or treating here in the United States.
8. Because of the excessive “tricking” and vandalism that began during the Great Depression, the 1930’s saw the organization of U.S. community-based trick or treating that we now do today.
9. Trick or Treating all but vanished in the US during World War II because of sugar rations put in place during the wartime.
10. Many animal shelters will not allow adoptions of black cats around Halloween for fear that they could be harmed or sacrificed. Save the kitties!
