Once the joy of your new baby has settled in and you’re feeling a little bit more like yourself again (which let’s be honest, isn’t for a few MONTHS), us mamas start to yearn for our pre-baby body. Yes, it’s true that your body will never be the same. But that doesn’t mean it can’t actually be better than before! Even if your goal isn’t to fit back into your miniature sized skinnies, most women desire to at least shed the excess pounds they’ve gained during pregnancy. As it turns out, there are certain foods that can help you lose weight beyond just dieting. They benefit your bodies in more ways than one and can help shave off those pounds. So what are you waiting for? Check them out!
1. Nuts
Consuming nuts results in many health benefits, including being a great source of fiber, monounsaturated fats, minerals and protein to name a few. Basically, eating nuts will help your heart, and keep diabetes, cancer and heart disease away. Because of their great source of protein and fiber, nuts will keep you full longer and keep your body fueled. They are a great snack to take with you on the run and the variety is so vast, you should be able to find at least a few you’ll enjoy!
2. Vitamin C
Getting sick at all, much less after just having a baby, is awful. Your commitment to eating healthy can go out the window, especially if you catch a cold and can’t taste much. Making sure vitamin C is a part of your diet is a huge must. It can help heal your body after labor and delivery and keep you from getting sick. Eat fruits with tons of Vitamin C, like citrus fruits such as oranges, tomatoes and grapefruit.
3. Lean Meats
Eating lean cuts of meat will be an excellent source of protein and iron, which will give you tons of energy. You will feel fuller longer then you would by just chowing down on carbs. Once you have that energy, your body will efficiently churn and you can burn fat!
4. Berries
Berries are rich in anti-inflammatories and antioxidants, two things your postpartum body will need, especially right after giving birth. They are an excellent alternative over consuming sugary foods if you have cravings. They have natural vitamins and minerals that will keep you going all day.
5. Leafy Greens
Ok, its up for debate if leafy greens are widely considered to be “tasty” as our subject suggests. However, whats not debatable is the powerhouse of vitamins, nutrients, fiber and minerals that exist in green veggies like kale, spinach and broccoli. These have been known to combat heart disease and diabetes, not to mention help with weight loss. There’s bound to be at least 1 leafy green you’ll like!
6. Whole Grains
Whole Grains are a better choice than white, refined grains. Their starches and sugars are natural as opposed to refined, and they are slowly released in your body. Your body uses those types of carbohydrates to expend energy. Grab whole wheat breads, pastas, crackers and brown rice instead of their white counterparts.
7. Water
Ok, we know, this isn’t a food, per se. However, no one can argue the benefits of water! Not only does water keep you hydrated, but it flushes your body of toxins. It keeps your skin healthy, feeling energized and repels headaches! Water keeps your body regulated so you can actually lose weight, and it’s not something you can afford to supplement with sodas, coffee or juice.
