8 Movies That Will Make You Want to Go to College

A really good movie will linger in your mind for a long time. People appreciate different aspects of movies, some remember a good soundtrack, others appreciate the cinematography and colors. The third type would be wondering what they would do if they were the protagonists.

It shouldn’t necessarily be a drama or thriller. It can be a lighthearted comedy or a silly action flick that will make you feel good. It can ease some doubts you have, like whether or not you should change your job or go to college. If you plan to enroll in college, you have motivation problems, or you want to remember how good it feels wanting to run to classes, this movie list is for you.

A real cinephile is like a student – they know the value of their time. You might want to dedicate a day to submerge into the film and don’t miss any deadline. Just like you can use services like LetterBoxd to find movies, you can write to a physics helper on EssayPro to get through your homework. As soon as you clear your tasks, you can pick any movie that will help you get back on track with your studying desire.

Educating Rita (1983)

Everyone loves a good story of someone who overcomes their hardships despite no one believing in them. Educating Rita is exactly this type of inspirational gem, following Rita, the hairdresser from Liverpool who wants to continue her studies. She enrolls in an English Literature course where she is assigned to professor Bryant, initially reluctant to help her.

However, quite soon her passion and enthusiasm not only get her through the course but motivate Bryant to find his long-lost interest in academia. Educating Rita is named one of the greatest movies by the British Institute, and it is the number one film for finding inspiration for any student. It provides the audience with an important lesson of never giving up studying and always looking for opportunities.

Legally Blonde (2001)

An OG of inspirational movies that would be considered classics for decades. Even if you love serious cinema, Legally Blonde knows how to melt your heart. The story of Elle Woods is similar to Educating Rita, where the passion for knowledge overcomes all challenges.

It inspires you to bring creativity everywhere you go. Elle Woods managed to prove everyone wrong when she used her talent and determination to become a lawyer. Your main takeaway is to never give up, even when you feel it’s too hard or impossible to continue. Also, never betray your authentic self because your career path doesn’t dictate what you can and cannot do.

The Great Debate (2007)

The Great Debate follows the debate coach Melvin B. Tolson who leads his team to victory. Notably, it is a historical biopic that depicts the unfair education system during Jim Crow laws in the 1930s. It may be unpleasant to learn that once there were so many obstacles for African-American students, society still has to work toward equal opportunities for all.

This movie is a perfect example of how one can fight against the world and come as a winner. It also challenges the stereotypes and common misconceptions that people have about others. What makes it even more engaging, the movie is not simply showing people winning. It has a deeper meaning about personal values and talents that we all must bring to what we do.

School of Babel (2014)

This documentary may be a breath of fresh air for anyone who wants to glimpse into the life of international students. School of Babel follows a group of students who just arrived in Paris and gather to learn French. They share their life stories, cultures, and worries they have.

The director Julie Bertucelli managed to capture beautiful moments and create a unique documentary. It is one of those non-English films that are a must-watch for students of every age and background. It helps the viewer to develop a better understanding of diverse classrooms and nurture understanding for your classmates. At the same time, it may encourage you to try exchange programs as a way of cultural communication.

Barry (2016)

Barry is one of the most interesting biopics out there about figuring out who you are and who you want to become. Even though you might not understand it right away, the movie follows Barack Obama during his formative years at Columbia University. It is a well-shot and compelling story about a young man who just discovers what he wants.

It is also a story about challenging others’ expectations about yourself and staying true to yourself. It is inspiring to see the shift in Barry as he discovers what motivates him. It is a good movie for every student who struggles to answer questions about themselves and their interests.

Everybody Wants Some!! (2016)

This lighthearted sports comedy can cheer you up when you feel exhausted and discouraged. It is also a movie for people who love to observe the adventures of people who can hardly sit in one place. The movie follows college freshmen who move into an off-campus coliving space with baseball team members.

This movie is not about too profound subjects. Yet, it’s also refreshing to remember that university is not only about studying and books. You have to take everything from your college experience. However, it may not be as exciting for introverted people, but they know for sure how to entertain themselves without crazy parties.

Lady Bird (2017)

Lady Bird is a beautiful and tender coming-of-age story. It is recommended to watch it on a rainy day with a lot of snacks and tea. You would love to empathize with another yet-to-become student Lady Bird.

It is a perfect movie that tackles the conflicts with your parents about your future, your self-image, and navigating through life. It is also bittersweet how nothing comes easy to us, and we must accept it and work through these problems. You might want to come back to your adolescent years and relive them again, even if they didn’t seem so exciting at the time.

The Souvenir (2019)

A young film student falls in love with an unreliable man, the story as old as the world. It is a good movie to grasp the behind-the-scenes of a student navigating through their college assignments and struggling to find their voice. If you ever dreamt about looking realistically at film production (the unrealistic but fun representation of filmmaking would be Cecil B. Demented by John Waters), this movie is for you.

What makes The Souvenir a good movie to analyze, is that we all have lives going on during our college years. Not everything is perfect and smooth as we would want it to be. Bad romances and toxic relationships are inevitable, and we should learn how to overcome them. It’s good to look at these topics from an outsider’s perspective and never make the mistake of someone ruining your dreams.

To Sum Up

Movies are a driving force for people who love balancing thinking and entertainment. Even the goofiest comedy can tell us a lot about people and ourselves. Sometimes, movies can change your life and forever change your perspective on most topics.
