Over 98% of women give birth in a hospital in the United States. Even though the percentage is small for home births, many families are choosing this way to bring their children into the world over the traditional hospital setting for a variety of reasons. The comfort of home, privacy from intrusive nurses and involvement of family members are just a few of the them. Newborn Lemma Maria’s mother was one of the 2% of women who opted for a water birth in her own home. Even more special, her husband was involved in a way that many never are: by getting in the water birthing tub with his wife!
