4. Books & Bookshelf
Studies have shown that an early love of reading can increase writing skills and intelligence as your child gets older. That being said, books and a great bookshelf are a necessity for your playroom. You don’t have to have a GIANT one, just something that holds all your children’s favorites. You can keep excess books in a bin in the garage, and cycle through them from time to time. Or simply visit your local library and change out the books often. The bookshelf pictured above has been the subject of many of my dreams, and is a great caddy in a whimsical color that’s perfect for any playroom!

5. Chalkboard or Magnetic Wall
A chalkboard or magnetic wall is a main staple in many playrooms these days. It’s a great way to provide a new art medium that keeps kids busy for hours. It requires little maintenance and you don’t have to keep buying paper! You can easily make your own by purchasing chalkboard and/or magnetic paint. Find a great section of a wall (or the entire thing!) and frame it out once you’re done. It will look classy and artsy at the same time.
TheCulinaryCouple.com has a great tutorial on making your own combination magnetic chalkboard wall, so check it out!

6. Soft Flooring or Rugs
If you live in a home without carpet, you will want to remedy your playroom flooring by adding some padding in the form of a rug or foam tiles. You don’t have to cover the entire floor (especially the area under an easel!), but having some rugs will help with the acoustics, provide a soft place for your babies to practice tummy time and add a cushy touch for your kids to lounge on if they want. There are tons of gorgeous playroom themed rugs out there, just do a little research!
