7. Reading Nook
You’ve got your stash of books in your playroom, now you just need to create a little space for your kids to read. You don’t have to have an entire wing of your playroom, a simple corner with a cute pillow and pile of books will do just fine. If you have a closet in your playroom, consider converting it into a reading nook like the photo above! So long as there’s a nice place for your little reader to get some good time reading, you’re all set!
8. Music
While your playroom most definitely does not require a TV, music is a must. Having play musical instruments and a CD player are perfect additions, and will encourage dancing, singing and all around happiness. It’s been said that children who end up playing an instrument are more inclined to be good at math and reading! So put in those earplugs, and get them playing!
9. Puzzles
Technology has been heralded as a great way to improve critical thinking skills, by using any number of kids apps out there. But using the age old puzzle is just as good, and will help increase concentration and persistence in your child. They are awesome long-term activities and great when you just need your kids to calm down and be quiet.

10. Play Tents
This is one item I’m personally missing from my playroom, but am putting on our wish list pronto! Kids love building tents and forts, but sometimes you just really want your couch cushions back. A play tent will be a welcome addition. Even if you can’t leave it set up all the time, it can be easily stored when not in use. It can double as your reading nook but more importantly, be a great source for them to put their imaginations to good use!
