4 Things People Say When You’re Expecting A Christmas Baby

When we found out we were expecting baby number two, I did one of those quick online due date calculators and practically fell out of my chair when I realized our precious bundle was expected to arrive on December 25th. Of course, I know they are not 100% reliable, and babies are notorious for arriving any day but their anticipated due date. However, our doctor did confirm we had a Christmas due date and since then I often cringe the moment someone asks me when our baby is due. Believe it or not, people seem to have a lot of opinions about this subject and don’t hold back from sharing them with me. Here are just a few of the comments I’ve had so far.

1. Well There Goes Your Holiday Plans

Since I’m pregnant and not bed ridden, I’m pretty sure I can still enjoy the run up to the holiday festivities, and even enjoy most of our holiday traditions. No, I wont be jetting off to visit any out of state family, or probably driving very far, but I will still be able to function. The last thing I want to be doing when waiting for baby boy to turn up, is sitting at home twiddling my thumbs. I may have to take it easy and stick close to home, but believe me, I will be soaking up every second of my favorite holiday and family time.

2. Did You Plan It?

First of all, the fact you are openly asking about my sex life, is really none of your business. Then are you really asking if we counted back from Christmas, ensured we had a roll in the sheets, all to hopefully end up with a Christmas baby is slightly ridiculous. Did we hope to have another baby, yes. Did we plan to have a specific due date, no.

3. Their Birthday Is Going To Suck Every Year

While I know it’s not ideal to have your birthday smack bang in the holiday season every year, a little confidence and support in my patenting and party planning would be appreciated. Maybe we’ll wait until January to throw and special party. Maybe he will be showered in love and special attention from all his extended family that are gathering for the holidays. Who knows, maybe he will actually enjoy having his birthday during the holidays? I don’t know either, but I sure hope he knows we do whatever we can to make him feel special each year.

4. The Baby Needs To Be Born On “___________”

Since I have a Christmas Day due date we have a whole selection of opinions on when the baby should actually be born. I think this is a common sentiment with any due date, however I have noticed the opinions are much stronger this time around. I personally am not opposed to him arriving before or after Christmas Day, especially given about 5% of babies are actually born on their due dates. I am not, however, going to plan for him to be early or late. I just know that when he does decide to make an appearance, it will be one of the best days of my life, and I can’t wait to do it all over again.

5. The Holiday Spirit Will Be More Beautiful Than Ever

While some may worry about how a Christmas baby might affect their holiday traditions, the truth is that this little one can bring a unique charm to the season. Imagine the joy of celebrating Christmas with a newborn, who embodies the spirit of giving and togetherness. Each Christmas will become even more special, filled with memories of your child's first experiences with the holiday lights, festive music, and family gatherings.

As your baby grows, you will create new traditions that revolve around their birthday and Christmas festivities. From Christmas-themed first birthdays to special family photos in front of the tree each year, your child's presence will make the holiday seasons richer. Not only will you cherish these moments personally, but these experiences will also weave a strong family bond that will last for generations to come.

6. Gift Ideas for a Christmas Baby

Finding the perfect gifts for a Christmas baby can be a delightful challenge. From personalized ornaments showcasing the birth date to festive outfits that celebrate their unique birthday, there are plenty of creative options. Additionally, consider meaningful gifts that can be treasured throughout their life, such as a special keepsake box for their Christmas cards or a book collection that they can enjoy as they grow.

Encouraging family and friends to embrace this holiday addition can also lead to some wonderful and thoughtful gifts. Instead of just wrapping toys, loved ones can give experiences like family passes to local zoo or cultural events to create lasting memories. This way, every gift ties back into the spirit of the season while ensuring that your child feels celebrated in their own right.

7. Navigating Holiday Gatherings with a Newborn

The thought of attending family gatherings with your newborn during the holiday season can be both exciting and daunting. Understanding what to expect and how to prepare can significantly ease the experience. Your hands will be full, but setting a flexible schedule for visiting relatives and allowing time for feedings and naps will help the day run smoothly, ensuring that both you and your little festive bundle can enjoy the celebrations.

Communicating with your family members is key to ensuring everyone understands your needs during the festivities. Let them know what works best for you and your baby, such as a quiet space for a feeding or a quick break if they get overwhelmed. Remember, the joy is in celebrating together, and while a little extra planning may be needed, it will all be worth it as you witness your child's first holiday season unfold in a memorable way.
