Gold is everywhere at the moment. I can’t even browse the home decor isles at Target for fear that everything might jump into my cart and I go broke. Plus, my husband doesn’t share my obsession for all things gold –  I have to sneak things in one at a time so he doesn’t notice. But really, why is it that a can of gold spray paint can transform something ugly into something fun and unique? Enter IKEA and the best gold spray paint hacks out there.

4. Shelves

All your need for this beauty is a can of gold spray paint and some marble contact paper. Pick yourself up a VITTSJÖ shelving unit at IKEA for $79.99 and assemble the frame. Spray the whole thing with two to three light coats of gold spray and leave to dry. While it’s drying cover the fiberboard shelved in the marble contact paper and add to frame once dry. Style with books, glassware and any other items you would like to display!

6. Lamp

Gold lamps make such an elegant addition to any room, but is it just me, or are lamps super expensive? I mean, I know they play a big part in decor, but I just can’t bring myself to spend $60 for a table lamp. BUT I will happily pay $20 for a cheap table lamp and a can of spray paint. This is going on the must-have list for my next IKEA trip!

Accessories

When it comes to transforming your IKEA pieces, don't overlook the power of accessories. A simple accessory swap can elevate the look of any item. By adding gold accents, such as new handles or decorative knobs, you can tie your style together seamlessly.

Beyond hardware, consider the use of textiles in conjunction with your gold spray paint projects. Soft furnishings like cushions or throws can create a chic contrast with the metallic elements, creating a refined atmosphere that draws attention without overwhelming the space.

Preparing Your Space

Before embarking on your DIY IKEA hack journey, proper preparation is key. Ensuring that you have a clean and organized workspace can make all the difference in the application of gold spray paint. Make sure to cover floors and nearby furniture to protect them from any paint splatter.

Additionally, prepping your furniture, such as sanding down surfaces or applying a primer, can help the paint adhere better and create a smoother finish. This extra step not only improves the overall outcome but can also extend the longevity of your DIY project.

Choosing the Right Spray Paint

Selecting the ideal gold spray paint can significantly impact the overall aesthetic of your hacks. It's crucial to choose a paint that provides good coverage and a shiny finish to mimic true gold. While some sprays have a matte texture, opting for a high-gloss option will give your furniture that luxurious look you're aiming for.

Testing your chosen spray paint on a small section of the surface is also recommended. This allows you to gauge how the color will appear once dry and whether it complements your existing decor style, ensuring you achieve the desired result without any surprises.
