Social media has so many great benefits and uses. You can easily connect with friends and family as well as use it for marketing, advertising, and growing a business. It has changed our world in so many ways, many of them being good, and many of them being bad. One of the negative things that has resulted from social media is the unrealistic expectation that is put on both women and men to look perfect. As a result, people forget what REAL people look like and begin cyber bullying and name calling. Anyone and everyone can comment on your photos and posts and say whatever they want about you. Celebrities, those who are well known in the social media world, and those who do not have private profiles unfortunately have to endure this horrible cyber bullying the most.
Em Ford, a well known blogger and social media user, wanted to prove how much these unrealistic expectations have tainted our vision of what beauty is. She decided to start posting photos of herself on her social media without any make up on. The responses and comments she received are shocking. She was called horrible names and people said some unforgivable things about her. Watch this touching video that will open your eyes to what real beauty is about.
I found this video to be incredibly moving and powerful. We need to teach our children that they are beautiful no matter what and that what they see on social media, magazines, and TV is unrealistic and fake. Let us all be a little kinder to one another and remember that we are all beautiful in our own way.
