Several years ago, Melissa Dohme was the victim of a horrible act of domestic violence. After dating her then boyfriend of several years, Melissa decided it would be better that they part ways when she started college. Having experienced small acts of violence in the relationship already, Melissa wanted a clean break. When her boyfriend asked for one final goodbye, she never expected him to begin stabbing her repeatedly, as she leaned in for a hug. Melissa was stabbed 32 times and barely survived. After a long recovery, she connected with one of her first responders and they began a relationship. This video is a beautiful showing of this couple becoming engaged, when all odds said that Melissa should never even have survived!
Melissa is such an inspiration! Not only was she able to recover physically when no one thought it would be possible, but she serves as a leader towards ending domestic violence. We wish her and Cameron the best!
