Spring Cleaning Hacks To Make Life Easier

It might not be your favorite part about spring, but you have to admit that there’s something great about spring cleaning. It’s so satisfying to see those months of grime simply wipe away to leave you and your home with a fresh new start. Spring cleaning can be as quick or as intense as you want, but you’re guaranteed to feel better when it’s all said and done. If the idea of spring cleaning sounds appealing, but the time it takes to deep clean your house feels like too much, you’re in luck. Cleaning doesn’t have to be a marathon endeavor. With these spring cleaning hacks, you can have a perfectly polished house the easy way.

1. Use Canned Air To Dust Vents

Vents, including those around the fan in your bathroom, are magnets for dust. They’re also nearly impossible to clean without taking the whole thing down. Canned air solves this problem. Buy one of those cans of pressurized air you usually use to clean your computer keyboard. The strong burst of targeted air will blow dust out of the vents for an easy spring cleaning hack.

2. Scrub Stained Sink Faucet With Lemon Halves

Stainless steel sinks and faucets look great…until they’re covered in water stains. Those stains are tricky to get rid of, but the acid in lemon juice is a more effective cleaner than most chemical-ridden concoctions. Simply cut a lemon in half and rub it all over the sink and faucet. You’ll be left with sparkling stainless steal and no more water stains. Plus, it makes your sink smell wonderful.

3. Use Dryer Sheets On Your Grimy Stovetop

Dryer sheets aren’t only for laundry. They’re non-abrasive sheets that can break down burnt-on grime to make it easier to wipe away. Drape a dryer sheet over the area you want to clean and walk away for at least 15 minutes. When you come back, that previously rock-hard gunk will be softer and easier to handle.

4. Coffee Filters Remove Fingerprints and Smudges

Your TV and computer screens scratch easily, and you need to be careful when cleaning. A special screen-cleaning microfiber rag will work, but few people have those lying around. For the rest of us, coffee filters work just fine. Gently rub a filter over the screen to see the smudges disappear thanks to this spring cleaning hack.

5. Squeegee Out Pet Hair

We love our furry family members, but their hair gets everywhere. This helpful spring cleaning hack can be used on your furniture, carpet, and even in your car. Take a squeegee and use it as if you’re cleaning the windows. The handy little tool will pull up all the hair that your vacuum missed.

6. Use Chalk to Remove Grease Stains

Once you get a grease stain on your couch or other upholstered surface, you think you’re done for. Grease stains are notoriously hard to get out. But did you know something as simple as chalk could save the day? Cover the entire stain in chalk and let it sit for at least a day to allow the residue to absorb the grease. Then wash and rinse like you normally would.

7. Dust Window Blinds With Tongs

Window blinds are probably some of the most annoying things to clean. You can speed up this process by using this spring cleaning hack. Wrap the ends of a pair of tongs with two microfiber rags. Hold the blinds steady while you slide the tongs along to clean both sides of the blinds at once.

8. Soak Cotton Balls in Vinegar to Clean Out Cracks

Spring cleaning is when you clean all those hard-to-reach areas you usually skip over. Look closely around the knobs on your stovetop or where the kitchen faucet meets the sink to see what I’m talking about. Grime builds up in these little cracks, and a regular rag can’t do anything. Your solution is to soak cotton balls in vinegar and shove them in the cracks. Let them sit there for about an hour and then wipe away the loosened grime with a wet rag.

9. Dust Fan Blades Using a Pillow Case

You don’t clean your fan blades every week, and that means they’re big dust collectors. Regular dusting can send those particles into the air if you’re not careful. A cotton or flannel pillowcase is your way around that. All you have to do is insert the fan blade all the way into the pillow case. Start farthest away from you and slide the fabric along the blade. The clumps of dust will fall into the pillow case instead of floating off into the air.

10. Wash Glass With Newspaper

No matter how many times you wipe your windows or mirrors, there’s always at least one streak. But with this spring cleaning hack, you get spotless glass every time. Paper towels and rags leave behind residue that make it look like your clean windows are dirty. Damp newspaper, on the other hand, does not. Use old newspaper along with your go-to glass cleaner for a quicker and more efficient clean.
