My 2017 Emily Ley Simplified Planner Review

by Amanda Foust June 1, 2017
written by Amanda Foust

Planners are something that I never replace with technology. I’ve tried and failed many times. There’s just something about a pen and paper checklist that makes me feel more protective and on top of things! I have been one who tries many planners, so I can easily tell you the pros and cons and the ins and outs of some of the most popular planners! In fact, we have written several reviews and round-ups about planners here on Life As Mama!

That’s why I was beyond excited when we were contacted by Emily Ley to review their most popular product. The Simplified Planner is one I was honored to review! Before we get into the review, we wanted to share some tips that come straight from the lovely people at Emily Ley to help you get the most out of using a planner.

  • Our #1 tip is pretty simple! USE your planner. Planners won’t help you stay organized or keep track of your life, if you don’t write things down and use those pages.
  • Keep your Simplified Planner where it’s always accessible. Maybe that’s your purse, office desk or kitchen counter.
  • Carve out time at the end of each day to plan for the next day and/or reserve a few minutes on the weekend to prep for the week ahead.
  • Think through what’s most important to you. Schedule time for those things first.
  • Don’t be afraid to get your planner messy. Scribble notes. Scratch things out. Be comfortable with white space.
  • Use color coding to keep track of various commitments (assign work, family, school, etc each it’s own color). Or assign each child a color on your pages.
  • Paperclip important recipes or coupons to the pages of your planner. These things won’t end up at the bottom of your purse – and you’ll always know where they are!

To change things up a bit, we decided to share our review through a video! Check it out below!

So, what do you think? Find out more information by visiting the Simplified Planner website here.

Organizing Tips For Making The Most Of This Summer- A Special Giveaway!

by Karly Wood April 26, 2017
written by Karly Wood

(This post contains affiliate links)

Summer will be here before you know it. Gone are the organized routines of school and after school activities, and we have to find a new normal amidst the sticky mornings and carefree nature of the hottest months of the year. Until I had a school-aged child, I never understood why parents loathed the end of school. Summer was so fun! But now that I have a daughter heading into her second year of school, I’ve already been given a taste of the normalcy that school routines have to offer. And now I’m scared for summer.

I have to be honest and say that my fear mostly comes from wondering how I’m going to manage my work from home job of 25 hours a week without the regular quiet and solitude that school brings. How will I entertain my kiddo, while maintaining my role as an employee? The answer of course, lies in careful planning. Pre-kids, I relied on my indestructible memory and ability to keep everything neat and tidy in my head. Those days are long gone. I’m a pen and pencil kind of girl, in an app and technology world. Sure, you can sync you calendar with your husband, but I much prefer the creativity and personalization that comes with writing down my own appointments and obligations. I love keeping my life straight with a planner and I know many of you do too.

Now, before you say, “my life isn’t that complicated, I don’t need a planner” let me ask you a few questions. Do you have any trips planned this summer? Do you work? How will you coordinate your time off, who to watch your pets and even to housesit? Do you like long days at the beach, pool or lake? Do you like dinner? Because even though you may enjoy a sun-filled day playing outside, your family is going to want to eat dinner once they get home. Do you work full time and need a variety of summer camps for the kids? All of these things are perfect for a planner, and why a planner is perfect for you!

Life As Mama recognizes the potential that every summer brings to have fun and bond with your kids. This year, we want to make it easy for you and that’s why we are partnering with Purple Trail, experts in custom designed stationary, cards and planners. This summer, we are hosting a giveaway and one lucky winner will be the recipient of a completely custom planner! Summer is about to get organized.

The Best 2017 Planners For Moms

by Amanda Foust November 8, 2016
written by Amanda Foust

As mothers, we are responsible for holding everything together for the family. We juggle work, kids, appointments, activities, meal planning, chore charts, budgeting and more! Maybe we have someone to take a few of those things off our plates, but we are still most likely the ones giving those around us friendly reminders and delegating tasks. So how do we keep it all straight?

I finally felt like I got all the pieces of my life (somewhat) together after purchasing my first planner two years ago. Planners have morphed from a single calendar to weekly scheduling, to-do lists, and goal setting prompts. Everything I need to organize my life and keep track of work and family obligations can now be in one central area — my planner.

There are many options of planners out there as it’s a growing industry. Consider this a “speed dating” post to find the right planner for you!

2. The Happiness Planner

Though most planners focus on productivity, this planner focuses on happiness, joy, and positivity! As mothers, sometimes we need extra reminders to remember our happiness is just as important as our littles who we love so much.

The Happiness Planner helps you to make each day positive, improves your self-awareness, and reminds you to lead with mindfulness and gratitude.

The website says The Happiness Planner will encourage you to…

  • Set goals that will maximize your happiness level.
  • Practice self-reflection so that you understand yourself better.
  • Plan your life around things that truly matter with those who truly matter.
  • Start each day with an exciting and inspiring thought.
  • Cut out things that hold you back.
  • Train your mind to always look at the positive side of things.
  • Learn to master the art of resilience.
  • Strengthen relationships with your loved ones.
  • Spend more time and money on things that truly make you happy
  • Eat healthy, and exercise regularly
  • End each day with gratitude

So for those of you who may want to focus less on scheduling and work tasks but want to make sure you are making your happiness a priority next year, this planner is for you!

You can purchase your own planner over at The Happiness Planner.

3. The MomAgenda

This planner was created with the busy mom in mind! It’s nice to have a planner that understands exactly the kind of life mothers lead. The MomAgenda helps moms to take control over their lives and to manage multiple schedules. It knows that, as a mother, your life is not the only one that matters. So this planner has room for multiple people’s schedules with separate space for you and each child! The agenda has weekly/monthly planning space as well as room for vacation and party planning.

In addition to a great planner, a momEssentials pamphlet comes with the purchase to help you keep track of medical information, passwords, birthdays, favorite websites, and more all in one place!

If you are looking for a planner that allows you to separate yours and your children’s schedules, this is for you!

You can find the perfect Mom Agenda for you over at MomAgenda.com.

4. Purple Trail Planner

This is a customizable planner that you can begin during any month! There’s nothing worse than getting mid-year and realizing you DO want a planner but you can’t use 50% of the one you purchased because the months have already passed you by. With this planner, if you want to start in November, then customize the planner to start in November! You can also personalize the covers with pictures of your family or your last name. Whatever you want it to look like or say, there is most likely an option for you available on the website!

Another great thing about this planner is that it has options for add-on pages that you can accept or decline! Not all of us want a reminder of our lack of fitness, so we don’t want to include a fitness tracker. Not all of us manage the finances, so we can accept or decline the budgeting tools. Another great add-on is a baby tracker that includes important dates, doctors visits, milestones, and more! You can view all the add-on pages and what they look like on the Purple Trail Planner site.

If you are looking for a customizable planner, this is a great option!

5. Erin Condren Life Planner

The more I researched planners, the more I saw the popularity of the Erin Condren Life Planner. This planner is customizable as well and offers similar things to the other planners mentioned above. The difference with this one is all the accessories Erin Condren offers to really stylize and glam up your planner. There are countless videos about this planner, but see the one below for a quick walk-through.

Personally, I was a bit overwhelmed by this planner, but if you truly want to dedicate your time to planning and making it a fun experience, this is a great option!

So, mamas, which one is it going to be? Tell us in the comments!
