Fun Football Finger Foods For Your Super Bowl Party

by Karly Wood January 18, 2017
written by Karly Wood

The Super Bowl is coming up, and for many Americans, it’s the highlight of the New Year. The best part of Super Bowl parties is all the food and we’ve found some fun (and funny) finger foods that will bring new life to your party. It may be a tad overboard to do them ALL at the same party, but you’re bound to find a few you can’t pass up.

Source: Pillsbury.com

1. Mini Football Buffalo Cheese Calzones

Well these are the cutest Calzone’s I’ve ever seen! Though they do take some work, your party friends are going to love the flaky crust, followed by a spicy buffalo chicken and cream cheese filling. They are the perfect finger food, especially with the cream cheese laces.

Snag this recipe over at Pillsbury.com!

2. Football Strawberries

Perfectly shaped already for a football themed event, these chocolate chip strawberries are a no brainer for your up coming Super Bowl get together. Even a novice baker or cook can manage to dip strawberries, and then draw a few simple lines to form the football laces. If you’re lucky enough to find a football place mat, your treats will be riding in style.

Check out the full tutorial and more on how to become a great cake decorator over at SweetDreamsCakeApp.com.

3. Pigskins In A Blanket

Another adorable recipe brought to you by Pillsbury! With just two ingredients, you’ll be whipping these up in no time. Kids and parents alike will love these mini smoked sausages (or you can cut down hot dogs) wrapped in flaky crescent dinner rolls and topped with some creative mustard.

Snag this recipe over at Pillsbury.com!

4. Peanut Butter Football Cookies

Nobody turns down a peanut butter cookie (uhh, unless you have a peanut allergy, that is), and these cookies will be no exception. Made using a regular peanut butter cookie recipe, form the dough balls into footballs. Bake, top with chocolate and make some fun laces with regular vanilla frosting!

You’ll find this recipe, along with another for Nutella Football Brownies over at CrazyForCrust.com.

5. Football Rice Krispy Treats

Forget boring rice krispy treats, make these cocoa krispy football treats instead! Made using the regular method, and then shaped by hand into this simple shape, these little beauties are the perfect addition to your Super Bowl spread!

This recipe is courtesy of ThatsWhatCheSaid.com. Head over to find more crafts and recipes!

6. Football Deviled Eggs

A deviled egg is always a family favorite at parties, and this recipe is just slightly varied to bring some football flair. Whip up your regular ole deviled egg, then place add some strategically placed chives for that total football look.

This recipe was found at Party City, the perfect place to find even more party ideas!

6 Fantastic Super Bowl Party DIY Decor Ideas

by Leena Kollar January 18, 2017
written by Leena Kollar

Tooooouchdown!! Are you ready for some football? Even if you don’t actually follow the sport, or have a favorite NFL team, a Super Bowl party is sure to be a good time! (Just root for whichever team your friends are rooting for, or the one with the best team colors.) When it comes to your Super Bowl party decor, it’s easy to choose a color scheme. Just stick to brown, green and black, which symbolize the football, the field and the play board. You can throw some red and white in for good measure too, just to mix things up. As for the actual decor, here are a few fun ways to get creative and go the DIY route for your celebration.

source: Etsy via Mason Jar Crafts Love

1. Utensil Jars

If you’re going to have food at your Super Bowl party, you’ll need somewhere to put the utensils. These mason jars are super cute, fun and creative! You’ll need paint, sandpaper, washi tape and craft pens to make these, and you’ll need to let everything dry overnight. I love the way these multiple designs look together!

Head over to Mason Jar Crafts Love for the full supply list and tutorial.

source: A Night Owl Blog

2. Football Field Tabletop

Not only will you protect your table from spills and damage with this piece of decor, it will look amazing. Err…SUPER! Using green felt and white duct tape, you can make a fun football field tabletop to display all your food & drinks on.

Check out the “how-to” over on A Night Owl Blog.

source: Positively Splendid

3. Jersey Beverage Koozies

This project takes a bit of work, but the results are totally cute! For kids who want to participate in the festivities but know they can’t drink adult beverages, these would be a really fun way for them to feel included. You could do numbers on the koozies, or even your children’s initials.

Take a look at Positively Splendid for the full list of materials and instructions.

source: My Cup Runneth Over

4. Turf Coasters

These are totally great for a Super Bowl shindig, and you could even reuse them for a Masters golf viewing party. (If you can stand to watch golf that long without dying of boredom.) Grab some mason jar lids, cork mats and turf and just follow a few simple steps. This small addition of green texture will bring a punch of fun to your party and your coffee table!

Pop on over to My Cup Runneth Over to learn how to make these.

source: Studio DIY

5. Commercial Rating Signs

It’s not a Super Bowl party without a discussion of the infamous commercials that get played during the game. But instead of just saying “yes” or “no” to whether or not you like each one, hold up a little rating sign! These are a great way to add laughter to your celebration, and you can take some photos of yourself holding them to share on your social media pages.

Studio DIY has the link to the printables, as well as the instructions for making these.

source: Mom Endeavors

6. Drink Tub

Instead of just putting your drinks in a metal tub for your Super Bowl party, jazz it up with some brown fabric! That’s really all you need. White duct tape can be used to add the football stripes. This is an easy peasy craft! Your beer and water bottles (for the kids) will definitely look rockin’ sitting in this bucket.

You’ll find all the information on making this at Mom Endeavors.

How To Throw A Stellar Pizza Party

by Guest Post January 9, 2017
written by Guest Post

There’s nothing like a pizza party to combine festivity, friendship and coziness. A pizza party works to brighten a chilly winter night as folks gather around warm, hot, and cheesy food. It’s a memorable backdrop to major events like football games and other sporting events and even great for a kid’s birthday party. A good party even draws neighbors and family closer together.

So how do you throw a stellar pizza party that’s? I’m so glad you asked!

1. A Taste for Everybody, and Everybody for a Taste

A fancy pizza party doesn’t necessarily require making a bunch of pizza from scratch! Feel free to grab some pizza from your favorite local delivery joint or (gasp) even some frozen pizza! You’ll just want to make sure you wind up with a few different kinds of bases to ensure you please the crowd. A good rule of thumb is one red, one white and one vegetarian. Of course, if you need more than three pizzas just double the rule.

Many people stick with tried-and-true pizza favorites, so a meat-zza fan likely enjoys red pizza with lots of meat toppings. Keep this in mind when you’re putting together your menu – but get creative! Pepperoni lovers may really enjoy spicy Capicola on their pizza as a swap that’s not too far from their comfort zone.

It isn’t just about flavors, either. In an era where people are increasingly concerned about health, many follow gluten-free diets and try to eat plenty of vegetables. Pizza’s association with cheese and crust can put it in a category where the health-conscious among us wouldn’t even think of it as a go-to food.

Because one to two percent of people have food allergies, potential pizza eaters are rightly concerned with what goes into their slice. The solution? Many pizza delivery places offer gluten-free crusts! Order one to be safe, or whip up a cauliflower crust.

2. Pair Beer and Pizza

There’s a reason so many pizza parlors have beer on tap. The kegs and taps did not mysteriously arrive in U.S. pizza parlors. Beer, you see, is carbonated. Its bubbles cut through oil and fat. Oil and fat are found in pizza, in both the dough and cheese. Beer and pizza go really well together as a result.

Bitter beers, like IPAs, have an effect similar to the acids in wine, cutting through fats, oils and salt.

Purchase several types of beer so your guests can pair their favorites. Beer is classified by body: light, medium or heavy. Order light for the vegetarian pizza lovers and medium or heavy for the meat-zza eaters. From there, the guests can have fun matching brews and slices.

3. A Toppings Bar Shines

You can really get festive by bringing a toppings bar to the party. Your red pizza, for example, might be a plain cheese pizza with basil, mozzarella and tomato sauce. But your toppings may make it a dazzling concoction with anchovies, eggplant and bacon. You can also make specialty pizzas. A red pizza with a drizzle of hot sauce and shredded chicken turns it into an instant buffalo chicken pizza. Likewise, adding arugula and prosciutto to a white pizza makes a specialty pie for any occasion.

Toppings really work if your pizza party contains couples or families who have very different pizza tastes. If they have to divide every pizza they’ve ever ordered between a half with anchovies and a half without, everybody can get plenty of what they most desire with a toppings bar. Just place your toppings in shining dishes where everyone can gather around buffet style, and go back for plenty of seconds.

There are so many vegetables to include in a toppings bar! Here’s some ideas:

  • Artichoke hearts
  • Asparagus
  • Eggplant
  • Figs
  • Mushrooms
  • Olives
  • Onions
  • Peppers or roasted peppers
  • Spinach
  • Tomatoes
  • Zucchini

Don’t forget toppings for your carnivorous friends:

  • Anchovies
  • Bacon
  • Barbecue Chicken
  • Chorizo
  • Clams
  • Ham
  • Meatballs
  • Pepperoni
  • Prosciutto
  • Sausage
  • Shrimp

It wouldn’t be a pizza party without all the cheese:

  • Asiago
  • Cheddar
  • Mozzarella
  • Parmesan
  • Smoked Gouda
  • Fontina
  • Feta

Herbs and sauces can also really make them fancy:

  • Basil
  • Chili peppers
  • Chives
  • Garlic
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Honey
  • Fresh Oregano
  • Rosemary

Pizza is great, and pizza and a party are even better. Pizza, beer and a party are the very best combination of all. They create a festive time that’s both fun and low-pressure comfortable. Use these tips, and your guests will thank you for an evening well spent.

5 Genius Hacks For The Perfect Baby Shower

by Ellice Vargas November 8, 2016
written by Ellice Vargas

Whether you are throwing it yourself, or someone else is blessing you with a baby shower bash, there are some easy ways to make this event as stress free as possible. While I know it is tempting to go all out and have a Pinterest worthy party, is the stress really necessary? Having just had my second baby shower recently, I thought I would share some of my baby shower “hacks” to make the host and baby mama’s life easier.

1. Address Thank You Envelopes

This one. All the praise hands. I looooove writing Thank You cards and always load up on them at Target’s One spot section. The only thing I don’t love doing, is hunting down the address so I can send those thank you’s out, especially so many at once after an event like a baby shower. Set up a little envelope station with a cute note and ask the guests to write their address on a blank envelope. This will give mama one less thing to stress about.

2. Electronic Baby Invitations

I know we live in a day and age where technology is taking over everything, but the convenience is just unmatched. I love unique and hand made invitations, but the price tag is sometimes a bit overwhelming. Plus if you are trying to keep your shower planning to a minimum, electronic invitations can help with that. There a ton of online sites that offer electronic invitations, such as Punchbowl. Or you can order invitations from Etsy and either print at home, or simply email/text the PDF or JPEG to your guests. This is a personal favorite of mine because I can print a few invitations at home for the Grandparents, but just text or email the rest out to my more tech savvy friends. All while having a fabulous and personalized invitation to fit your theme.

Check out Invites2Adore at www.etsy.com for more gorgeous invitations.

3. Edible Favors

So, while you absolutely don’t have to do favors at your shower, I know many of us still feel like its an important part of throwing a party. My way of getting around this extra detail, while also keeping costs low, was to provide cupcakes for all the guests. With all the other food we had, the cupcakes are always the last thing to be eaten and most people grab then as they head out of the door with already full bellies. You could do the same thing with cookies, or some other delicious treat. Plus, a pretty dessert tables makes for a great party decoration.

shutterstock_165811202

4. Have a Planning Party

Enlist the help of other close friends or family members and get together and have a planning party. We did this recently for a friends shower and it was the perfect excuse to have a girls night. Grab some wine, or a non-alcoholic beverage of choice if the mama-to-be is going to be there, and some yummy treats and get your DIY on. You will be surprised how much you can get done in one night and how much simpler the shower set up will be if you have everything already planned out.

5. Reuse and Recycle

My shower for my baby boy was an outdoorsy, adventure, woodsy theme. I know, I know, I couldn’t pick just one. After ransacking mine and my best friends house, I realized a had ton of decor I could use for the shower without spending a penny or wasting a ton of energy searching the stores. Likewise if you need flower arrangements, why not stick to wildflowers and look around your neighborhood to see what you can find. Just make sure you are not plucking your next door neighbors prize winning roses.

5. Pumpkin Guest Book

Have your guests leave a note for your little one on the way with this super cute and original pumpkin guestbook. It may not be completely traditional to have a guest book at a baby shower, but I love the idea of your friends and family writing a special message to your babe on the way. Make sure, of course, to pick up a faux pumpkin if you want to hang onto it long after the shower has passed.

How To Throw An Epic & Affordable Bridal Shower

by Guest Post July 11, 2016
written by Guest Post

Fancy pants, party hats and being so bridal glam all the time gets expensive. The bridal party, and of course the bride, herself, don’t need the kind of stress and panic that comes after overspending.

You can throw an amazing bridal shower without blowing all of the budget — and it doesn’t mean you have to make streamers out of toilet paper. Bridal showers may be more original with creativity and loving thought placed into personalized details. Here’s how to keep the bride blushing with a few tips to give her the shower she deserves, with less stress.

1. Focus On Simplicity & Creativity With The Menu.

Neatly cut tea sandwiches are so cute but so cliché. And really – cucumbers and cream cheese? You can do better than that.

The menu should be delicious, comforting and relevant to the bridal party’s taste. If the bride loves your local Thai place, for example, there is nothing wrong with serving food from little Asian takeout boxes and pouring over a scrapbook one of the bridesmaids put together. You could also make your own authentic Pad Thai.

Keep the menu simple with small plates, a dessert bar with chocolate and champagne or fun with a breakfast for dinner buffet or a waffle bar.

Don’t be afraid of themes, either. If the bride’s a baseball fan, center the menu around healthy (or not) game foods you’d find in the stands. A Mad Hatter tea party is also a wacky, classy idea, especially if the bride’s a literary nerd. When the tea sandwiches are cut out to look like cats and other fun shapes, it’s less cliché.

2. Paper Is Your Ally.

From streamers and garlands to bow tie cake toppers and cute centerpieces, DIY paper craft bridal shower decorations may save you from a lot of unnecessary spending. Such things do take a while to make, however. If you’re short on time, pick a paper project that will have the most impact aesthetically and the least likelihood of creating bug eyes when checking the budget.

Pretty paper can be expensive, though, so you may be rolling your eyes at the thought of cheap DIY paper décor. Sometimes, it’s easier to buy something rather than purchase all of the supplies to construct what may be a failed attempt. Don’t worry: You’ve got this. You could even try making these coffee filter flower pom-poms that resemble hydrangeas. With a little sparkle and dye, these are very classy decorations to suspend from the ceiling with hanging lights. It’s just a trip to a dollar store near you.

3. Focus On Invoking Memories.

Break out the box of memories if you’re afraid the party may get stagnant after a few games and gifts being opened. You’ll give everyone a chance to get closer by engaging the loved ones and members of bridal party with fond and funny memories of the bride. You could call it “bridal shower and tell.”

So, yes, paper is your ally, but don’t use notecards to share memories. Let attendees sit in a circle and share a fond memory organically. Open with a toast and go around the circle, giving everyone a chance to share. Preferably, show a physical keepsake of that memory, such as a concert ticket or best friends’ necklace — you might want to give guests a heads up about this activity so they have time to find something.

Decorations and activities may also invoke nostalgia. What year did the couple meet? Do they have a song? Invite attendants to forward you a photo that captures a favorite memory with the bride. Then, create a clothespin garland of lyrics or photos. Leave a section of the line empty to add candid instant print photos, and you’ll be able to share memories as they are being created.

4. Get Cozy.

You want the bridal shower to be a reflection of what the bride herself likes and enjoys. If the bride is a homebody who loves her PJs, make the bridal shower a pajama party and move night. Watch old movies starring Julia Roberts, like “Mystic Pizza,” and, obviously, order the best pizza in town. After all, who doesn’t love Julia Roberts, comfy PJs and pizza? Take or leave “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”

Every year, couples spend over $72 billion dollars together on their special days. That is so many dollars! Weddings and the celebratory events leading up to the big day are big business and may be a major source of stress.

With a little ingenuity and innovation, though, the menu, games and decorations for the bridal shower can be affordable and relieve worry over finances. More importantly, the bride will have an epic shower full of originality and personalization that will surely be an unforgettable experience for her.
