10 Fabulous Fall Porch Decor Ideas

by Ellice Vargas August 7, 2018
written by Ellice Vargas

Fall is quickly approaching and although Summer has still got a few more weeks, it won’t stop me daydreaming about crunchy leaves and hot apple cider. The general rule of thumb I live by when preparing to start the holiday decorating is to wait until September 1st, but with the stores busting out all the holiday decor already I figured the planning (and buying) could start now. I’m so excited that for the first time ever I have a porch that can be decorated, and I love that it’s such a fun way to welcome visitors to your home. I spent some time on good ole Pinterest to get some inspiration for some porch decorating ideas and I’ve rounded up some of my favorites below.

by Karly Wood September 25, 2017
written by Karly Wood

If you love Fall but really aren’t into all the pumpkin hype, chances are you don’t really decorate with them either. For some, it’s just too cliched and too much pumpkin- all.the.time. But I’m here to change your mind and I want to do it with the painted pumpkin. They are unique, easy to do, and the most un-pumpkin you can get. Keep reading for some seriously gorgeous painted pumpkin ideas.

1. Fall Florals

I’m not much of a painter myself, but I might give this painted pumpkin style a try. It’s gorgeous! The white pumpkin serves as the perfect canvas for all the warm Fall tones that make up this floral design. The fact that it’s not a Picasso makes it that much more beautiful.

PMQForTwo.com has an amazing tutorial with tons of video detail to help you recreate this look for your home!

2. Pendleton Pumpkins

If you have Native American or Western roots, you are probably familiar with the Pendleton pattern, and perhaps you would like to incorporate into your Fall decor. It’s surprisingly easy to do! You can use simple diamond or stripes stencils, or even washi tape to affix on your pumpkins. This is a great way to pull in your everyday love of this style into your Autumn decorations.

3. Whitewashed Pumpkins

For you basic decorators out there, this whitewashed pumpkin is for you! It’s just a matter of using some white chalk paint, watering it down with a litter water, and then applying with a rag. You can apply to any color pumpkin to tone down a potentially bright color, and make it perfect for your shabby chic, farmhouse or coastal vibe. Easy peasy!

10 Fabulous No-Carve Painted Pumpkins

by Leena Kollar September 26, 2016
written by Leena Kollar

I’ve always been a little OCD. A bit of a perfectionist. Asymmetry has never been a friend of mine and I’m still not sure we have much in common. So when it gets close to Halloween, and it’s time to start thinking about carving pumpkins, my anxiety kicks in just a little. What if I carve a face into the pumpkin, but the eyes are different sizes? What if the shape I carve into the pumpkin is lopsided? Hey, I know! I can paint the pumpkins instead!

Yes, there’s still a chance I could create some uneven designs on my pumpkins using paint, but it’s less likely, and probably easier to fix. And- painted pumpkins look so chic and trendy, that for moms like me, who crave a little coolness in our lives, a painted pumpkin for Halloween is sure to do the trick (or treat)!

1. Ombre Effect

Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you have to stick to fall colors for your pumpkin decorating. A pop of pink mixed in with your traditional fall orange will add a punch of fun! You can create an ombre effect to achieve a look that is both trendy and slightly seasonal.

Learn how to do this colorful ombre look on your pumpkins by visiting Funkytime. And for more fun ombre projects to try this fall, we’ve got you covered with 7 Fall DIY Ombre Projects.

2. Styled With Stencils

If you have time to get more crafty with your pumpkin designs, using a stencil is a cool way to add creative patterns. You can also try using painter’s tape to do stripes in different colors.

Head over to Handmade Charlotte, where you’ll find a full list of materials and instructions on stenciling your pumpkins.

3. Modern Metallic

Ooh, don’t you love the idea of doing a metallic look on your pumpkins? It’s so elegant and unique! And my oh my, this is SO EASY to do. You literally just pour metallic paint over your pumpkins and let it drizzle down. The pumpkins used for this project were actually faux pumpkins, but you can use a coat of white or silver paint to get the same effect.

Check out Design Dining Diapers for more information on this project, and take a look at the other great ideas while you’re there!

1. Thankful Pumpkin

I love the idea of painting Thanksgiving messages on pumpkins. You could write anything from “give thanks” to, “Happy Thanksgiving,” to “Harvest.” No matter what you choose to write on your pumpkin, the messages will look festive and very appropriate for the holiday. You could display these pumpkins on your doorstep as your guests come to your home, on your dinner table, or on your mantle. Either way they’re the perfect Thanksgiving day decor.

(Check out The Glitter Guide for more party entertaining tips, beauty advice, fashion inspiration, and more).

2. Pumpkin Ice Bucket

How genius is this pumpkin ice bucket? This is the perfect way to chill all of the drinks that you’ll be having at your Thanksgiving dinner from wine, to champagne, to sparkling apple cider. The best part is that these are not only functional, but that they make beautiful decor as well. You can display these in your kitchen or near your dinner table so that serving your guests more drinks is easy and beautiful.

(Head over to Everyday Dishes for all the recipes you’ll ever need for every meal and every dessert).

3. Chalkboard Pumpkin Menu

What better way to tell your guests what you’ll be having at your Thanksgiving dinner than to write them on a pumpkin? You could do this so many ways, but since chalkboard paint is so popular now a days, paint the pumpkins with chalkboard paint, then write the menu in chalk. If you ask me, it’s so much better than printing a paper and posting it on your refrigerator for hardly anyone to see.
