An island full of rabbits sounds like something out of a story book, but Okunoshima island in Japan proves otherwise. This small island is home to hundreds of wild rabbits that roam the forests of the island and chase the tourists for food. Although this island full of rabbits may seem adorable and happy now, it’s history doesn’t have such a happy past. It was once a production site for chemical weapons during the second world war. Thanks to these adorable rabbits (who’s true origins are unknown), the horrific purpose of this island long ago is now overshadowed by these fun furry animals.
I may have to add Okunoshima island to the list of places I want to travel. These little rabbits are just too cute to pass up. I wonder how many rabbits are on the island now, given what we know about bunnies! Have you ever visited Okunoshima island? We would love to hear about it!
