5. Interview
You already know how quickly your kids physically grow up, but their personal tastes and preferences can change just as fast. On the first day of school, have your kids fill out interview sheets with details about their age, grade, favorite foods and books, as well as their friends. This is an easy way to capture them at a specific point and time, and super simple to scrapbook!
GigglesGalore.net has a handful of free printables that you’ll love, including this cute interview sheet.

6. Create A Summer Memory Book
Some traditions require more time and effort than others, but yield a wonderful memory. Before the school year starts, sit back with your kids and reflect on the summer. Gather pictures and ticket stubs, and make a memory book that documents their great summer. All good things must come to an end, so if they can remember the wonderful summer they had, they’ll be excited to get through the school year to start the next one!

7. Back To School Eve
New Years and Christmas aren’t the only big days that deserve an “eve.” Host a “back to school Eve” for your kids to get them excited for the upcoming school year. You can make a special dinner, hand out creatively packaged school supplies and set goals for the upcoming year. This is a very meaningful tradition that you can refer back to the entire year.

8. Schultüte
Borrow a tradition from our German friends and create your own Schultüte! It’s a paper cone that you will fill with school supplies and other goodies, and give out on the first day of school. Now, the tradition won’t just be a German one, but a family one too!

9. Special After School Treat
Make it a tradition that your kids get to pick a special treat for surviving their first day back at school. You can bring it in the car or have something tasty waiting at home cupcakes, a huge cookie or a special cake. It’s not an every day occurrence so don’t feel guilty!

10. Boo Hoo Breakfast
While all the other traditions are centered around your kids, sending your kids off to school is emotional for us mamas, especially if it’s the first day of preschool or kindergarten and it deserves a tradition too! Gather your mom fiends together for a breakfast where you can all regale each other with tales of sending your children to school. It will give you something to look forward to as you drive off the school campus! As the years go bye, your enthusiasm will probably start to replace sadness as your kids get older and you can’t wait for them to go back.
