I’ve tried more than a few chalkboard projects in my day, and I have to say, it’s an easy (and cheap) way to spruce up ordinary objects around the house. What’s even better, most of these DIY projects are kid-friendly, so if you want little hands to help you along the way, this is the post for you!

1. Picture Frame
Buy a large picture frame at a thrift store. Prime and paint the outer frame whatever color you choose. Once that dries, you can apply the chalkboard paint directly onto the glass. It’s that simple. Check out The Frugal Homemaker for further instructions as well as other ideas for DIY projects on a budget.

2. Dollar Store Tray
I can’t get over how cute (and simple) this project is! Again, find a tray at the dollar store or your favorite thrift store (there’s a pattern forming here). Apply a couple coats of chalkboard paint and voilá–you have a pretty piece to display whatever message you wish. Check out Soel Boutique for this project and ideas on fashion, beauty, and more.

3. DIY Easel
Ok, I admit–this is NOT a simple DIY, but if measuring tape and hammers are your thing, this chalkboard easel project is right up your alley. Go to Shanty2Chic for a detailed tutorial on this project as well as extensive plans for a variety of DIY undertakings.
