It’s no secret that the first few months of pregnancy can be hard. Many women have morning sickness, and most women feel extremely exhausted. Not to mention that your slowly growing baby belly is starting to get really uncomfortable in all of your clothes. Your pants are just a tad bit too tight and instead of looking pregnant you just look like you’ve gained a few pounds. It’s an awkward time that can make it hard to dress your body. However, there are a few things you can do to help make you more comfortable not only in your clothes, but in your own skin, as well.
1. Secure Your Pants With A Hairband
You’re starting to get to that awkward time when your pants still fit, but having them buttoned all day long is just really uncomfortable. A great trick that I use is to hold my pants together is to secure them with an elastic hair band. How, you ask? All you have to do is thread the hair band through the top buttonhole of your pants. Then bring the loop of the hair band back up through the center of the front loop and pull it tight. Once it’s tightly looped through, you can take the remaining loop and put it around the button on your pants. This will keep your pants closed, but allows you to have a little more breathing room, which is always nice.
2. Belly Band
If your belly is just too big to use the elastic hair band trick, a great way to continue wearing the pants you already have without buying maternity pants is to buy a pregnancy belly band. It’s a piece of material that you wear around the top of your pants over your belly. It’s tight enough that it will hold your unbuttoned pants in place, but loose enough to be comfortable.
3. Yoga Band Bottoms
One of the most comfortable things you can wear when your belly is growing is a stretchy skirt or pants. I personally love maxi skirts or leggings that have a yoga waist band because they’re really stretchy without having an elastic waist band. Elastic waist bands, even though stretchy, can still be uncomfortable by cutting into you and not stretching enough.
4. Flowy Shirts
Since we can’t always button our pants when our small belly is growing, or we’re self conscious about the way our belly looks like extra fat, try to hide this problem with some flowy shirts. Buy shirts that aren’t form fitting, or buy t-shirts that fit larger on you so they won’t be tight around your belly. It will help you not to worry about people seeing your extra “pudge.”
