One of my very favorite things to do is to give myself a manicure or pedicure. Although it’s a lot of work, it’s very relaxing and therapeutic. I love being able to sit down after a long day, get my polishes out, and make my nails look pretty. I love finding little tips and tricks that will make my manicure process faster, easier, or more pretty. I always welcome new hacks like this and have found that doing these simple things makes doing my nails so much easier. As a mom, that’s a huge plus because I don’t have a lot of extra time to spend doing my nails for hours. If you’re looking for some ways to make your nail polish process faster and easier, check out these 7 nail hacks.
1. Use Vaseline To Protect The Skin Around Your Nails
If you’re like me and not the best at keeping your polish off the skin around the edges of your nails while painting, prepping your fingers with Vaseline will go a long way. Simply apply some to the skin around the edges of your nails. It will make for much easier clean up. The Vaseline creates a barrier between your skin and the polish, so instead of sticking to your skin, the polish stays on the Vaseline. Then, once you’re done painting, wipe off the vaseline and any polish with it!
2. Use Two Base Coats To Prevent Chipping
If you want your polish to last longer, try putting on two base coats. The only catch is that the first coat only needs to be applied to the top half portion of your nail. The second coat will be applied to the whole nail. This will help the polish on the tip of your nails to last longer and prevent it from chipping because it will have that extra barrier.

3. Remove Glitter Polish Easily
I love me a good glitter nail polish, but I sure do hate taking it off my nails. It’s so incredibly difficult to rub off with polish remover. However, using this little trick will make it so much easier. You can remove it much like you would gel polish. Dip your cotton in some acetone, press it firmly on the nail, then wrap it with foil. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then unwrap the foil and the glitter polish should fall right off.

4. Dry Your Nails With Ice Water
One of the most frustrating parts about doing your nails is waiting for the polish to dry. No matter what I do I always end up smudging my nails somehow. In order to avoid this, try dipping your nails in ice cold water after air drying it for a bit. I know that sounds weird, but it will actually set the polish and make it dry faster.
5. Create Your Own Decals With Plastic Wrap
If you don’t want to pay for nail decals, make your own at home. It’s fairly simple and all you need is plastic wrap, polish, and a decorative punch (like the ones used for scrapbooking). Simply paint the polish on the plastic wrap, let it dry, then use your cute hole punch to cut out the design. Lay the design on your nail, then paint over with a top coat to protect it, and voila! Custom nail decals.
6. For Easy Cleanup, Use An Angled Eyebrow Brush
Another great way to clean up the skin around your nail after painting them is to use an angled eyebrow brush and some polish remover. Simply dip it in the remover, then easily clean up the edges of your nail. Since the brush is so tight and compact it’s easier to control and will clean your skin without messing up your polish.
7. For Faster Drying, Use Cooking Oil Spray
If you don’t want to brave the ice cold water to dry your nails, try spraying them with a little cooking oil spray. It, too, will help set the color and make it dry quicker. Simply let your nails air dry for a few minutes, then give them a few spritzes of the cooking spray, and your nails will be dry before you know it.
