One of the areas of my home that I struggle with the most to keep organized is my clothes closet. Between the shirts, pants, dresses, scarves, jewelry, hats, shoes, and everything else that goes in your closet, it’s hard to keep it all in it’s place and organized. Recently, I’ve been trying really hard to keep my closet organized, which mean’s I’ve researched some ways to do this. Here are 7 great tips I’ve found to help keep your closet look beautiful and clean.
1. Flip Your Hangers When You Wear Clothes
One of my biggest problems when it comes to keeping my clothes organized is that I just have too many (don’t tell my husband I just said that). It’s true, though, and I’ve really realized that over the past few months. There are lots of pieces that I don’t wear, but think I will in a few months. A great way to prove what clothes you actually wear and don’t wear, is to play the flipping game. Go in your closet right now and turn all of your hangers the opposite way of how you think you would. As you wear clothes, do laundry, and put them away, hang them up the correct way. After a 3 or 6 months, look through your closet to see which hangers are still turned the incorrect way. Those are the clothes you haven’t worn in months and most likely won’t anytime soon, so throw those out and make some room in that crowded closet of yours!
2. Utilize The Back Of Your Doors
One of the most under utilized places in our homes is the back of each of our doors! There’s so much possible storage on those things. You can hang multiple towel rods to hang jewelry on or you can hang shoe organizers. No matter what you do with that space, just utilize it as much as possible, otherwise it’s just wasted space.

3. Use Plastic Shoe Organizers (And Not For Shoes)
Even though I’m not the best at organization, this is one way I have used to organize my closet for a few years and it’s amazing. I always hang a clear, plastic shoe organizer in my closet. Usually I hang it on an empty wall or on the back of the door, because that space obviously isn’t being used. Instead of using this for shoes, though, I use it to store my scarves, belts, beanies, gloves, and other items like that. It keeps them all organized, and in plain sight so I can easily access them.

4. Use Bins
Another great way to keep things organized in your closet is to use bins to keep things in place, like handbags, clutches, hats, belts, and more. These are perfect for putting on those high shelves that you won’t be using every day. If you really want your closet to look beautiful, use pretty bins and boxes instead of just cardboard boxes that will make your closet look unfinished.

5. Use Labels
A great way to know where everything is in your closet at all times is to label everything. Label bins, boxes, sections of hangers, and more. The more you label, the more you’ll easily be able to find what you want when you want it. If you don’t think you need to label things in plain sight, at least label items that can’t be easily seen, like those in bins, boxes, and baskets.

6. Use Pool Noodles To Keep Boots Upright
One of the most frustrating things about having boots is that when you try to organize them in your closet, they slouch over and make it hard to see. To avoid that, take some of those pool noodles (you can always find these at the dollar store, by the way) cut them to the size you need, and put them in your boots so they stay upright. It will help make your closet look so much cleaner and you’ll be able to see everything in your closet so much easier by doing this.

7. Use S Hooks For Pants
I don’t know about you, but I hate hanging pants up. Putting them on the hangers is just annoying and then it makes it hard to see which pants are which when they’re all next to each other. Instead of dealing with those problems, buy some S hooks and hang your pants on those. Just take one of the belt loops on the pants and put it on the S hook, then hang it on your closet rod. You’ll thank me next time you do your laundry.
