7 Creative & Fun DIY Necklaces For Girls

There’s no better way to add color, texture or fun to your outfit than with an accessory. For girls, jewelry is probably the most popular accessory. For girls who aren’t old enough to pierce their ears, or who aren’t responsible enough to wear real jewels, a little DIY necklace project is a great compromise. My baby is just over a year old, and she’s already getting into my jewelry box! Whenever I’m wearing a necklace, she sits on me and plays with it. I can tell already that she’s going to be a fashionista like her mama!

If you have a little girl who loves wearing necklaces, you’ve got to check out these super fun DIY necklace crafts. You won’t have to worry about your girl damaging your diamonds, or losing a family heirloom. She’ll have a special necklace she can call her own, and best of all, she can tell everyone she made it herself!

1. Ombre Tassel Necklace

As the resident rainbow lover here, I obviously think this tassel necklace is fabulous. There’s fun colors, soft material, and a very unique design. I would absolutely borrow this from my daughter if she let me! In fact, I’ll probably make one for myself because I’d want to wear it everyday. This project will require adult supervision, but is great for older girls.

For step-by-step instructions on making this ombre beauty, head over to Homemade Banana, where you’ll find other fun DIY projects to try.

2. Pineapple Necklace

If you can’t get your girl to eat fruit, you can definitely get her to wear it. I know that doesn’t really help in the ways of healthy eating, but it might encourage her to try it sooner. Here’s to hoping, right? Work together with your daughter on this craft, because it does take a bit of detailed coordination.

Take a look at the instructions by visiting Raising Whasians. Mom Christie shares all kinds of recipes, craft projects and travel ideas.

3. Mini Clothespin Necklace

Ooooh….bright colors! I love it, don’t you? I’m always amazed at how creative people can be. This DIY necklace is an example of creativity that I wish I had. Kids would totally have a lot of fun creating this, and it can be done in less than 15 minutes.

Jump over to Babble Dabble Do for the “how-to,” and check out the other projects while you’re there.

4. Solar System Necklace

Now here’s a project that is fun and educational. Those are the best kind! With this, you can talk about each planet in the solar system as you work on it. You can stick to standard colors that reflect each planet, or give each one a new look. Either way, your girl will look adorbs in this beaded necklace.

Check out how each planet was painted over at Handmade Charlotte, where there’s lots more to see.

5. Macrame Rock Necklace

Doesn’t this necklace look so unique? I love pieces and projects that you don’t see everywhere else, and this is one of them. Head outside and go “rock hunting” with your girl, and then get creative with this DIY craft. Once the necklace is finished, your mini macrame-er will impress all the kids on the playground.

Head over to The Artful Parent to see how this is done, and check out the other arts & crafts projects that are there.

6. Straw Necklace

Talk about easy peasy. All you need for this DIY necklace is colorful, cut up straws, scissors, string and tape. This is great for younger girls who enjoy arts & crafts but don’t yet have the skills for more complex projects. Help your child customize this necklace by cutting different lengths of the straw, and letting her choose the colors she likes best.

Learn about how this project strengthens motor skills on Mess For Less.

7. Thread And Milk Jug Necklace

If you’ve got the time to be creative and dedicate yourself to a project that’s a bit more involved, try this milk jug necklace. You can work with your child on it, but you’ll need to mostly pull the reigns. Instead of recycling those empty milk jugs, turn them into a fun project that your daughter can wear!

Take a look at Pink Stripey Socks to see how this is made.

I'm a wife, mother and everything else associated with domestic life. I can often be found hiding from my kids to sneak treats (especially ice cream). I love rainbows and naps, and I find any excuse to go to Target. When I actually make it out of the house in real clothes, I document my outfits on my fashion blog, Leather & Lip Gloss. My love for fashion also inspired me to start my own comprehensive style website, The Style Spectrum.
