I’m a lover of crafting, DIY, and repurposing old items. One of my very favorite things to do is shop at thrift stores and find new ways to use old items. Surprisingly there are some wonderful ways to repurpose old furniture, even a child’s crib. Yep, that’s right, you can make an old crib into lots of other items that will still have function in your home. So before you throw away that old crib you have that you think you’ll never use again, check out these 8 crazy ways to repurpose an old crib.

1. Picture Hanger

One of my favorite things to display in my home are pictures without frames. I love the simplicity of having some pictures hanging together on a wire or string that can be changed easily without much effort. It also has a certain air about it that looks fun and spontaneous, like you just took those pictures and wanted to display them quickly because you loved them so much. I love that you can post so many pictures on this piece all at once and create a statement piece in your room just from pictures of your life.

2. Outdoor Seat

My husband and I just recently acquired an outdoor swing that we put in our backyard and we love it. It’s one of the best things in our home. We spend almost every night out there when my husband gets home from work and relax while our son plays outside. There’s just something about spending time outside together as a family that is refreshing and fun. If you don’t have the money to buy the outdoor furniture, use your old crib and crib mattress. All you have to do is remove one side of the crib and you’ve got the seat right there. Just buy some decorative pillows and you’re set to go.

3. Magazine Rack

If you’ve ever owned magazines, you know that one of the most frustrating parts about having them is that there’s never a good place to put them. They always end up being stacked on a table or in a corner and end up looking messy and no one ever reads them. Well, this ingenious way of using the side of a crib turned on it’s end makes the perfect magazine rack. The best part is that you can customize it however you want. You can paint it whatever color you like and you can put as many or as little magazines on there as you’d like. You can lean it against the wall, or mount it on the wall, as well. Either way it’ll be the perfect place for all your magazines for display and functionality.

4. Children’s Table

Kids always need a little table to sit at where they can play with their toys, color, craft, or do homework. It makes it so much easier for them to sit at a table and chair that’s their size and it takes a lot of worry from our minds of them falling from the big table. You can easily make a children’s table from an old crib. All you have to do is remove one side, buy a few small chairs, and voila! They now have a new play area.

5. Wall Display

Just like you can hang pictures on the bottom springs of the crib, you can also display other items as well. It’s perfect for sentimental pieces that you don’t want to put in a box, but don’t really have another place for either. You could hang your child’s baptismal clothes, the outfit they wore home from the hospital, or other items that hold sentimental value. It’s a nice conversation piece that will get people asking and wondering what the meaning behind those items is.

6. Craft Organizer

If you’re a crafter, you know the importance of having somewhere to store and organize all your craft supplies. This is no easy task. Craft supplies can take up a lot of space and can be difficult to organize. However, if you take the side of a crib and hang a few hooks and extra fixtures on it, you can hang it from the wall and use it to hold all your craft supplies. It’s perfect for keeping these things out of the way because it hangs on the wall.

7. Herb Garden

If you live in a place that has very little or no area to place plants of any kind, you can create your own little garden from an old crib. It makes the perfect planter that is protected and raised off the ground so little hands and critters can’t reach it.

8. Chalkboard Easel

It’s no secret that chalkboards have been all the rage over the past few years. You see them everywhere. They make great decoration pieces as well as display items. You can easily make your own cute and decorative chalkboards or chalkboard easel from the ends of a crib. You can paint the frames whatever color you’d like then paint some chalkboard paint on the panel. It’s simple, yet fun and decorative.
