For years now I have dreamed of having a stunning and creative headboard behind our bed, but because of the cost of headboards this dream has never come true. Not only can they be incredibly expensive but it’s hard to find one that has that unique look you want for your bedroom. Whether you want a chic and sophisticated look or something more eclectic and modern there are many options of DIY headboards floating around the internet. If you’re looking for an alternative to boring and costly headboards, check out these 8 DIY headboards you can easily make and for fairly low cost. You’re sure to find one that’s perfect for your bedroom.
1. Rustic Wood
If you’re looking for a more rustic look for your bedroom, this wooden headboard is perfect for you. With just a few pieces of wood and stain you can create this same look above your own bed. It’s inexpensive and simple which makes it a great DIY project. Â It will give your room that extra bit of rustic country that you’ve been looking for without being overkill. If you want to get more creative and adventuresome you can paint a word or design on the wood to finish off the look. Either way it will look beautiful and truly create a unique look in your bedroom.

2. Simple Upholstered Look
The look of an upholstered headboard makes a room look sophisticated and beautiful, but the price is usually very discouraging. A great solution is to make your own upholstered headboard. You may think I’m crazy for even suggesting that, but it can actually be a lot easier than you think! Of course, you can always get very fancy when making your own which can get complicated and expensive, or you can keep it easy by simply building a wood frame, then covering it with fabric. Hang it above your bed and you’ll have the look of an upholstered headboard without the high cost!

3. Foam Ceiling Tiles
If you’re looking for a more custom look that’s easy and inexpensive, try using some foam ceiling tiles as your headboard. All you have to do is buy the tiles, spray paint them whatever color you’d like, then hang them up with some foam adhesive, and voila! It’s incredibly creative, yet simple at the same time.  The foam tiles are very inexpensive and allow you to make the headboard whatever color you’d like. Not to mention that you don’t have to put any holes in the wall to hang them. This would be a great option for renters who won’t be staying in their home for long.
