Conceiving a child is an amazing miracle that our bodies are able to perform. The phrase “the miracle of life” is certainly not an understatement. However, with being pregnant comes very many changes. People are usually concerned about what you should do when you become pregnant, but there are a lot of things that you should do BEFORE getting pregnant. Some habits should be started or stopped before actually conceiving to benefit not only you, but your baby as well. To help you know what those are, we’ve gathered 12 very important things you should do before you get pregnant.
1. Stop Unhealthy Habits
If you smoke or drink heavy amounts of alcohol you should start quitting those habits now. You obviously cannot drink or smoke while pregnant, and it will be easier for you to slowly quit those habits instead of cutting them out cold turkey once you find out you’re pregnant. Morning sickness is bad enough to deal with and having cravings and headaches on top of that because you want to have a drink of alcohol or a cigarette will make it even more horrible for you.
2. Change Your Eating Habits
When you’re pregnant it’s important to have healthy eating habits so your baby gets all the best nutrients so it can grow properly. It will be easier to change your eating habits to healthy ones instead of eating junk food before getting pregnant than it will once you are pregnant. Not to mention you may loose a few pounds in the process which is always a plus, especially since once you’re pregnant your body is bound to gain a few pounds as well.
3. Check Caffeine Intake
Doctors are conflicted when it comes to drinking caffeine while pregnant, but most agree that you should not drink more than 200 mg of caffeine a day. If you’re a big time coffee, energy drink, or soda drinker you may want to start laying off on how much you drink before you get pregnant. Everyone knows that when you quit caffeine you can have withdrawals and get headaches, so it will be easier for you to deal with those things before being pregnant and sick.
