Unless you’re living under a rock, you’re probably familiar with fidget spinners. Kids everywhere (and let’s face it, adults too) have been scrambling to get their hands on all types of these stress-relieving and all around just fun miniature toys. You can pretty much buy a fidget spinner anywhere these days (I’ve even seen them at the checkout stand at the grocery store) but I’d imagine it would be fun just to make your own. A few weeks ago we rounded up some fun DIY fidget spinners and now our friends at Kiwi Crate have come up with a creative origami fidget spinner that’s equal parts fun and crafty.

This spinner is a great option if you don’t happen to have washers and ball bearings lying around. Basic office supplies like paper, glue and paper clips coupled with some strategically placed dimes are all you need! The best part about this craft is you can totally personalize it by getting creative with your paper choices. If this looks likes something you need to get your hands on, head over to Kiwi Crate at the link below to get crafting!

Step-by-Step Instructions for Making the Origami Fidget Spinner

Creating a DIY origami fidget spinner is an engaging project that's both fun and rewarding. Begin by gathering your materials, which include colored paper, scissors, and a ruler. The first step involves cutting a square piece of paper, as this will be the foundation of your spinner.

Once you have your square cut, you can start folding it into the desired shape. Follow the origami folding techniques carefully, ensuring each crease is sharp for better performance. As you progress, you'll begin to see the transformation from a flat sheet into a functioning fidget spinner, ready for hours of enjoyment.

Benefits of Using a Fidget Spinner

Fidget spinners have gained popularity not just as a toy but also as a tool for improving focus and reducing stress. They can help individuals, especially those with ADHD or anxiety, maintain concentration while also providing an outlet for excess energy. The act of spinning can be meditative, offering a calming effect during stressful moments.

Furthermore, using a fidget spinner can improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, which can be beneficial for children developing these abilities. The tactile experience of spinning and the variety of designs encourage creativity and personal expression, making them a great addition to any craft project, including your DIY origami spinner.

Tips for Personalizing Your Fidget Spinner

Personalizing your DIY origami fidget spinner can make it a true reflection of your personality. Consider using patterned or multi-colored paper to create eye-catching designs that stand out. You can even decorate your spinner further with stickers or markers after it's finished, giving it an extra touch of flair.

Another fun way to personalize your spinner is to add different sizes or shapes to create a unique arrangement. Experimenting with various designs not only enhances visual appeal but can also change how the spinner rotates and feels in your hands. This way, every spinner can be distinct and tailored to the creator's preference.

Incorporating Fidget Spinners into Daily Life

Fidget spinners can be seamlessly integrated into daily routines, especially during tasks that require prolonged focus. Whether you are studying, working, or participating in a meeting, having a spinner handy can help ground your energy and maintain your productivity levels. It's a discreet way to manage impatience or restlessness while keeping your mind sharp.

In addition, fidget spinners can serve as a conversational starter, especially among friends or in social settings. Sharing the creative process behind making your DIY origami spinner can inspire others to engage in their own crafting projects, creating a community of makers who appreciate the benefits of fidget tools. This can lead to bonding experiences while also promoting calmness and focus among peers.
