I feel like there are many inventions that have a short lifespan, and the spice rack is one of them. When I got married, I happily registered and received a spinning rack to hold some basic spices. It took up space on my counter, and we lived a pleasant few years in harmony. But as I got older, my countertops seemed to get smaller, and my use of spices expanded beyond the 8 that fit into my spice rack. It just didn’t make sense to use one when I the spices I really used could take up a small cabinet, out of sight, instead. While there are many styles of spice racks out there, I’m sure you’d rather put yours to good use doing something else, as opposed to just tossing it in the trash. Check out these genius ways of repurposing them!

1. Craft Paint Stand
I LOVE shopping the acrylic paint aisle at craft stores. There are so many colors and they are SO CHEAP. But that usually means I have little paint bottles all over, and with little organization. Not anymore! You can turn that outdated, wooden spice rack into a craft paint stand by coating in a fun color and then instantly putting to good use with all that paint. Organization never looked so pretty!

2. Notions Holder
Do you sew, make jewelry or have tons of other small crafting supplies? An old spice rack with jars could be the answer to your organization problems. Give your jars a good washing and then fill with all your buttons and beads. It’s also a great way to keep such small pieces out of reach from the kids!

If your former spice racks are more simple, like these Ikea Bekvam racks, you’re in great shape because they are so versatile. Paint them any color you want and go from a basket of messy polishes under your sink to a statement piece in your bathroom!

6. Washi Tape Holder
If you’re luck enough to have a collection of washi tape that deserves it’s own holder, you need this spice rack turned washi tape contraption! While I can’t be sure exactly how it was transformed (although it looks like some dowels were inserted to hang the tape on), one thing is certain: your washi tape will feel right at home.

7. Twine Rack
It’s hard to believe this spice rack was ever in need of a repurpose, but different folks, right? If you’re a seamstress or just love a good collection of twine, there’s no better way to store than in a transformed spice rack. No more tangled twine and organization like this is nothing but pleasing to the eye.
