I think there are two types of moms: those who take time to dress up every day, no matter what the occasion, and those who couldn’t care less about looking nice and opt for comfortable clothes instead. I guess I’m somewhere in between. While I spend most of my days in stretchy pants, tanks and tees, I do take my style up a notch on days when time permits. Sometimes, it’s really easy to take a basic piece of clothing, pair it with a few others and create a look that’s perfect for everyday without being overdone.
Take a t-shirt, for example. If you’re going to spend a lot of your time this summer in comfortable cotton, here are 6 ways you can up your t-shirt style game.

1. Pumps & A Fringe Bag
All it takes to upgrade your look sometimes is a couple of key accessories. Take your basic tee and jeans up a notch by throwing on a pair of pretty pumps and carrying a stylish handbag. Fringe is always fun, and is a great way to add texture. Once you drop the kids off at school, switch out your flats for a pair of pumps and enjoy an afternoon lunch with the ladies.

2. Colorful Pleated Skirt
Two ways to spice up any look are with color and texture. A bright pleated skirt will add both of these to your t-shirt look. To create a more defined waist, tuck your t-shirt in and add a belt. This will accentuate your waist and make your lower half appear longer.

3. Shortalls & Sandals
On those hot summer days when you want to be comfortable but also look cute, a great pair of shortalls (overalls that are the length of shorts) will do the trick! You don’t need to wear any jewelry or accessories for a look like this (although a fedora would look totally fab), so it’s great when you have a casual day of running errands planned. Slip on those summer sandals and let your feet breathe as you go about your day.

4. Corporate Blazer
Even if you don’t work in an office, wearing a blazer over your t-shirt looks very sophisticated. You can wear it with jeans for an edgier look, or pair with matching trousers if you do need a corporate outfit. While summer tends to be outrageously hot for many, this is a good option for when you’re indoors and the air conditioning is on full blast.

5. Pop Of Color
If your t-shirt is basic white, you can add an element of fun with colorful pieces like shorts. Add other colorful accessories like a simple necklace and skinny belt, and you’ll be amazed at what it does for your look. Don’t forgot, though, that the best accessory you can wear is a smile!

6. Pencil Skirt & Clutch
Take your daytime t-shirt look into evening easily by switching out your jeans for a classy pencil skirt. This look works for corporate events, cocktail hour, or date night with the hubby. Carry a clutch instead of a bag to minimize your look and let the focus be on you. Tuck your tee in to lengthen your lower half.
