Creating the perfect home setting for your family is one of the greatest joys of adulthood. When you come to redecorate your home this year, one of the hardest parts is always the finishing touches. After completely transforming a room with new walls, floors, and ceilings – it is important to add in some small design aspects that bring a space to life and add a sense of homeliness and personality.

Today we are going to take a look at some of the simple ways that you can bring finishing touches to your interior design and create a home that truly brings out your personality as well as your family’s.

Flowers

The first way to add a fun finishing touch to your home this year is with some stunning plants and flowers. Greenery is always a good way to add some life and energy into a home, and it will instantly lift your design and finish off a room. Choosing a plethora of different flowers and plants to decorate your home with will be a great way to brighten up a space and add some colour into blank corners of your home. Consider adding some life back into your house with greenery this year.

Curtains and blinds

When redecorating your home make sure that you don’t forget about your curtains and blinds! These practical features often get cast aside and forgotten about; however a good set of curtains and blinds are the perfect thing for you to use to finish off your room design.

A gallery wall

One of the fun ways you can vamp up a blank wall in your house is to install a gallery wall with some different size and shape frames and different art pieces. If you always struggle to choose just one piece of art for the walls of your home, this will allow you to choose a few different pieces that you love and have them all displayed on your wall for some fun and brightness in any room. This is the perfect idea for a blank wall space behind your sofa or even at the top of your stairs where there is some space for people to stop and take a look. A gallery wall can even feature a piece picked by each member of your family to really help bring that sense of uniqueness and personality.

Candles

One simple way to improve the look of a home in seconds as well as add some ambient light is candles. Candles can be a great design focal point for different parts of your home such as in your bathroom on the window sill or over your mantle piece. Whether you choose a large jar candle with a stunning design or you go for some tea lights across the space – these are all great ways for you to spruce up a room in seconds. Plus, you can choose scented candles and leave them open to share their scent around the house each day.

Ornaments

There are some amazing ways to pimp up your space with ornaments and they will add some personality to your home in no time at all. From a few cute figurines on display, to glass paperweights, and even vases and jars – these will help to finish off your home and fill those blank spaces in your house. One way to really add some personality to your home is to buy a terracotta jar or jug and paint it your own colour or pattern to brighten up a white table or a blank wall.

A clock

One of the decorative items a lot of us don’t have anymore in our homes is a clock. A clock used to be a feature in every home, but these days it is less likely to have one hanging on your wall. If you have some blank wall space in your family kitchen, consider investing in a large clock that will bring the space to life and also be a practical feature for your home.

Glass coasters can come in many different colours and designs and they are a classy feature to bring into your living space. Not only will they brighten up your coffee table or dining area, but they are practical and it will ensure that the kids don’t put their drinks directly on your surfaces.

One of the best things you can do in your family home to add some personality and colour is print out some candid shots of your family and have them on display throughout the house. Photo frames can be either hung on the wall or placed on shelves around your home and they can be a great way to fill blank space in any part of your house.

Seasonal Decor

Seasonal decor is an exciting way to keep your home feeling fresh and inviting throughout the year. By incorporating simple elements that reflect the current season, such as autumn leaves, winter wreaths, or summer flowers, you can easily transition your space to match the time of year. Seasonal decor not only adds visual interest but also creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that resonates with changes in nature.

Consider rotating accents like themed table runners, decorative pillows, or framed art that celebrate the uniqueness of each season. For instance, bright colors and floral patterns may be perfect for spring, while warmer earthy tones could invoke the coziness of fall. This practice of changing decor seasonally allows you to fully enjoy the beauty of each period, bringing it indoors, and encourages creativity in how you style your home.

Area Rugs

Area rugs play a fundamental role in defining spaces within a room and adding texture to your flooring. They can create a warm, inviting atmosphere while also providing comfort underfoot, which is essential in high-traffic areas like the living room or entryway. By choosing the right size, color, and pattern, an area rug can become a focal point that ties together furniture and decor elements.

Moreover, area rugs come in a wide variety of materials, allowing you to select one that complements your lifestyle. From plush, luxurious textures that add warmth to colorful, patterned options that enhance visual interest, the possibilities are endless. Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure your rugs remain beautiful and durable, enhancing both the aesthetic and comfort of your home for years to come.

Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are an easy and affordable way to breathe new life into your living spaces. They offer not only comfort but also an opportunity to introduce texture and color into your decor without significant commitment. By swapping out throw pillows seasonally or whenever you want a change, you can quickly refresh the look of your sofa or bedding.

Wall Art

Wall art is a powerful aspect of home decor that can set the overall tone of a room. From canvas paintings and framed prints to wall sculptures and tapestries, the right pieces can showcase your personality and interests while enhancing the visual appeal of your space. Curating a mix of art styles and mediums can create a personalized gallery that tells your story.

When deciding on wall art, consider the size and placement to create a cohesive look. Large pieces can serve as bold focal points, while smaller artworks can be grouped together for an eclectic vibe. Additionally, rotating your wall art allows you to keep your decor fresh and exciting, reflecting any changes in your taste or the seasons throughout the year.
