7. Get Your Child’s Input
One of the most important parts of changing up your nursery it to keep your child’s personality in mind. You may be surprised how opinionated they can be if you just ask them! Obviously you get the final say with what paint goes on the wall, but there’s nothing wrong with giving them a choice between 2 colors. Just like you’d hoped your nursery reflected your sweet baby, so will their big kid room.

8. Neutral Bedding
Since you’ll be getting your child a new bed (or transitioning your existing crib), you will likely need new bedding to go along with it. I personally have never been a fan of cartoon themed bedding and feel like neutral bedding will change the feel of your nursery just as effectively as Doc McStuffins will. If you end up going with a twin bed, your bedding has the opportunity to last even longer. So pick simple prints or solids that match your new room.

9. Ditch the Rocker
As much as you love recalling memories of rocking your sweet baby to sleep, you probably don’t do that often anymore. Removing your glider or rocker will immediately make your child’s room feel like a big kid room. It’s also a good idea for safety purposes, so you don’t have to worry about late night rocking sessions without your supervision. It will give your child’s room a lot more available space, and you can put your glider to good use in an other room. It’s a great idea to replace with child-sized chairs or an art table!
10. Accessorize
Adding new accessories to your child’s room will help differentiate it from a nursery even further. Wall hangings, mirrors, books and decorative frames are all ways you can update the look and feel of your old nursery.
